Hi Georgia, I am a 54 year old female trying to get into a cdl training school, may I ask where you learned to drive? Was it with your current company? The only one I have been able to get into is England, and I have read such bad things about them, I do not want to go. Please give me some pointers. Thank you, Jane

Hi, I live in Arizona, but do not care where I go to school, as I will plan on driving at least one year, no need to come home, will give up my place. I am ready to roll.
    Thank you

Pleased to meet you, jane1227. :biggrin_25514:

I went to a private CDL school here in Georgia before applying to any company, so I was able to stay home while I trained. Once I got my CDL, I started with Central Refrigerated and then switched over to USX.

USX, btw, does not train you to get your CDL, but will train recent grads.

If it's possible, you should try to get your CDL without going through one of the training companies. You can do that either through a private school, or a community college in your area. You may be able to apply for government assistance to help pay for some if not most of your training.

Then you can be a little picky about who you go to work for.

Get the CDL in the state where you have your current driver's license. Less headaches that way.

    Hey, back on-line.......

It's a terrible thing to be at the mercy of technology.

Well, feet up at the Pilot in Mt Vernon, IL waiting for hours to come back so I can deliver tomorrow in Findlay, OH.

there are some private CDl schools. I personally went to Roadmaster Inc here in Tampa. Get your CDl first, a lot more companies open for you.

    Young_Gun,

Thanks for helping with giving jane1227 info. I agree it is best to have your CDL permit if possible first.

    Hi all :)
    Happy Valentines Day..
Just wanted to thank everyone for their information and advice given when asked.
Im finally a member of the family as of the second week of Jan.
Its been really great tho I've been thru 2 trucks already.. LOL.. (I'm catching up with Wedge)
The first was a 2013 International with 97,000 miles that had more recalls than I have wigs.. LOL
Now rolling a 2010 Cascadia with 373,000 that's been pretty good to me besides a bad sensor telling me I'm running hot tho its 13 degrees out after driving only 7mi :)
I was assigned to the RR Donnelley Acct and I'm loving it. My Fleet Manager is pretty awesome and keeps me rolling even on re-cap hrs.. And I love that there is no sliding pay scale on the acct so right now BIG CUDOS to USX :)
One again.. Thank you all.. Be safe and Be blessed :)

    Wedge Thanks this.

Im not sure of procedure but I've talked to ppl who said the state paid for them to go. To the local college in their area to get their CDLs.. Think it's a 3-4wk class offered every so often.
