So I've been driving locally with one company for the past six years. Its known as a "stepping stone company", due to them taking you right out of school and not paying anything. Most ppl just get their exp and get out. Out of 50+ drivers at our terminal, only 3 have 20+ yrs, and 5 are 10+ yr company drivers. In the six years I've been here, I only recognize 10 from when I started.
Anyways, on to my question. Im a young guy, former drag racing hot head with a record. I know this doesn't go well with the type of career path I've chosen, which is why I made the conscious decision to mature and slow down.
Im 27 yrs old and I have a speeding ticket from nov 2007, I was going 89 in a 70 in my car. Of course I wouldn't dare drive in such a way in a commercial vehicle, but unfortunately companies tie my car and semi into one license. Whatever. Anyhow this is almost three yrs ago and im still unable to find work.
Are trucking companies really that strict that one moving violation is all I need to shun me from the industry? I have never had a DOT recordable accident, and my CSA 2010 score should be top notch. Had a lvl 1 inspection last month with no violations. Also im currently a driver trainer with my current company.
I thought my safe record would be enough to easily find a company but I never hear back from anyone. Are companies less likely to hire someone under 30? I heard 25 to to 40 is the prime age for hiring people. Maybe that one ticket is just too much to swallow for any good company.
I've applied to four fuel tanker companies here in central FL, and a general goods van company (First Fleet).
Appreciate any comments

I would think that with the number of available applicants, companies are going to be tougher on what they will overlook. One ticket, would seem to be hard to believe that would be the deal breaker, but could be. Have you tried following up with the companies? Or are you just turning in an application and waiting for them to contact you? It could be, that your application is sitting on someones desk, collecting dust. If you follow-up, you will get that dust knocked off, and if they have processed it and turned you down they might tell you why.

Most companies won't call,
YOU have to call them !!!
Give it a couple more months,
let that ticket drop off !! -
Three years is not enough time for the companies today...when they do the background and DMV check, they ask for a five year driving history.
The problem you will be seeing, is the ticket was 19 over the limit...so that (15 over is the qualifying point) is considered "Reckless" to the insurance companies...even though you weren't convicted of the actual Reckless (from what you posted)...but that is how the companies will view it, due to their insurance parameters.
Sorry, but that is the way of the times now! The best you can do right now is stay local if possible and let the record clean up to the 5 year point.
Good luck to you! -
Markers,
You MAY get lucky.
Florida has no 5 year MVR record. ....90% of the time its a 3 year,
and 10% of the time they pull a 10 year (lifetime). -
yeah I was never actually convicted of any reckless driving. no jail time or court appearance. just paid my $180 fine and that was that.
from what I see, most companies go back 3 yrs on moving violations. will just have to keep after it and hope one takes me. im more than qualified for a good job
