Hey there, im a new Driver in training (just finished my first of 3 weeks at school) and the school has had me applying for jobs. I got a pre-acceptence letter and phone call from Werner, who I decided to work for. Yes I have read the bad about them but I need to start some where right? On my job applications I said that I had NOT had a suspended license ever. When I was 17 I got busted with some pot and had my license suspended for 6 months. I was not trying to lie, I thought that my record was clean because I was underage, this evening I paid for a DMV record and the suspension was on there. I do believe that my criminal record is clean, due to the fact that I was underage. Im 23 now, dont smoke anymore, and am a hard honest worker who is just trying to make a living. What should I do? Call Werner and explain? Will I have a hard time finding a decent company to start with? I just wanna drive.

Call and explain you screwed up, thought it was gone since you were a minor. I would be upfront and honest rather then them finding it out later.

I would come clean and let them know. Being straight forward and honest with someone is better off than not at all then gettin the bad news after going through all that hard work for them to say "since you said this and this showed up the other way we cant take you" then leave you hangin to get home on your own.
Granted honesty doesnt always get you best deals in life but you know in your own heart that doing the right thing is better than not doing a thing and seeing what happens, from others examples, gets you much pain in the long run

You're going to have an extremely hard road to go if any company puts you down for lying on a job application to cover up a drug bust and license suspension. Let this be a lesson learned for all new comers. Do your research before you commit to any school or shell out any bucks. I'm sorry but you just might find yourself unemployable and now you'll be stuck with a school debt.

Of course you need to run damage control now and call the company and explain. I don't know if they will take what you're saying to heart and give you a chance but I know my company would not. Just for the simple reason you lied right out of the gate. So what will happen later on? Plus there's many more drivers to choose from.

You might want to think about getting a lawyer to clean your record completely. You shouldn't be held liable for what we stupid kids do over the younger years, unless it's a crime for adults. If you can do this then you'll have a clean shot as long as none of these people file any reports on your DAC or whatever the report is called these days.

So bottom line is to clean up the mess with the job applications then get the bad marks removed if you can. IMHO that's the only way you'll have a shot to be a successful truck driver with a good future. It's all my 2¢.

I'd call Werner recruiting as soon as possible, and explain. As long as you're honest, you're well off. Werner might not take you, due to the issue. But it's better to let them know up front, they won't ding your DAC for lying on the application.

That's the best chance anywhere. Any time you can explain your situation face to face you stand a better chance. Never try to hide something and by coming right out and explaining the problem shows them that you're trying to hide anything. Then it gets these guys wondering "hey, maybe he's ok".

Your age doesn't matter. ANY citations, crashes, suspensions, or other black marks WILL be included on the MVR. You can be 14 years old and get a DUI after homecoming while driving without a license and it still doesn't mean that it magically goes away on your 18th birthday. It is there...and will be for as long as the state requires it to be...most drug/alcohol-related offenses will be on the MVR for at LEAST 10 years.

As far as the criminal charges, you had better look into that. If you were 17, it can go either way. If the case was handled by the juvenile system, it may be sealed....but it might not be. If it went through the adult system, it will likely show up...ESPECIALLY if there was a conviction. Even if a court dismissed the charges against you, they STILL may show up...unless the court also expunged the incident from your record.

It is a HUGE turn-off to potential employers when you appear to be hiding ANYTHING! If in doubt, write it down. I have actually included things on applications that the company later told me to remove because those incidents did not show up on the MVR check. Despite what you may hear elsewhere, honesty is the best policy.

If you were 14 and you had recieved a dui you would go through the juvenile court system and this record would get sealed once you become an adult.....so no your wrong cause its not going to stay on record for 10 years
