    Week Done.
All-in-all not that bad. Still having a little syncing that RPM-Speed-Gear formula, but it is getting better.

Some advice that helped my friends and I that were pretty good at shifting and this really made us much smother and was touched on in earlier posts in this thread. Progressive shifting will help big time with the lower gears. Shift early like said earlier so start out in 2nd and shift to 3rd at 1000 shift to 4th at 1100 5th at 1200 and so on and so on by the time your in high 7-8-9 you're closer to 1500 when you shift. Also pause on that RPM as well give the engine and trans a chance to settle down. So if you're heavy on the fuel and push in the clutch the engine is still wound up and the RPM's will continue to rise makes you grind a tad. So if you're going for 1200 when you get there hold 1200 for one second then shift. This seemed to help us out being noobs we all were pretty smooth using this method.

Thanks everyone for the help. Yesterday I drove and my shifting went much better. I missed three gears but I have developed a technique or feel for sliding it in without forcing or grinding, the RPM+Speed thing it coming along.
Also we had 4 guys from our class hit for random drug test yesterday. They said sometimes no one get pulled then like yesterday a bunch get it at one time.
Anyway the bottom line is I'm doing better with shifting and I will be taking my Pre-trip test next week.

can't get around the parking lot?? LOL and i thought you were a driver, not a steering wheel holder! :biggrin_25519:

anyway, we have 2 recruiters coming tomorrow. i don't have the times with me. i'm sure you'd be welcome even if you just drop by.

i have no room to talk, after finally hitting the plate and missing the tire, i took so much time in the barricades i lost 10 points for being over time. i didn't hit anything, but i stopped and checked my mirrors 5,000 times, and then at the end missed the spot by 9 inches. 3 more points lost.

so, driver, i'm just a steering wheel twister i guess

Haven't posted as much because it's pretty much trainning, driving and classroom. But today I did take and pass my pre trip. So that is a little bit of a milestone. Tomorrow my group goes up to Boone NC for some Mt driving.

Did our first mountain driving today, not being loaded I really didn't think it was that big of a deal be cause we were empty. But I guess loading up a truck 80,000lbs truck and some green students on an 8 degree grade would not be the best idea.
Tomorrow we start making our qualifying runs. There are two, an out & an in run. We must qualify on both in order to meet the NC DMV requirements. The school requirements are much tougher and will take longer. So many of the students will actually have met or will already have their CDL before the school ends.

Exactly. Just always remember no two trucks aren't gonna shift the same. Case in point. I went to FTA IN Asheboro. They just bought a newer truck. I road tested on it. I haven't stalled out one truck since I had been there. And on the road test last turn before the shop. I stalled it out. But I recovered. Got a few points knocked off. Good luck to all you guys and girls. My cdl isn't but about 4 days old.
