My company did the studies way back in the 60's. We never had a problem running with the lights on during the day until they came out with no switch to turn them off. How do you pull onto a loading rack for gasoline when the rules require you to turn off all electrical gear? They had to do more studies to see if they was a hazard with sealed beamed lights. After that they spec'd the truck to have head lights you can turn off.
Driving with the lights on during daylight hours?

I drive with my headlamps on to be seen. Its not a company policy, I just do it. Both of my cars have DRL. If I could hook up the factory DRL in my Columbia, I would.
-
As I am in the process of getting my CDL, I have come to realize that we should lobby for mandatory IQ testing for both motorists and truck drivers. the level of idiot I saw passing/cheating on the written tests over the last two days at the DMV has really been an eye opening experience.
-
Did you do something about it or just let go by?
-
I was watching kids take their tests for the standard driver's license and yes, I recorded the cheating with a HD camera, when I told the lady that was administering the test.(I was sure she could see the cheating, but assumed that she was naieve.) After explaining the situation I was told that the "cheaters" needed their licenses so that they could get to their away football games, also, to be less of a busybody.
What exactly could I have done besides that? -
Local news, state official in charge of the DMV, etc... perhaps they would like to see your recording?
-
This is somewhat derailing the thread, but to answer that response. I have been harassed before for pointing out bureaucratic corruption, and I really can't afford another arrest that could mess with my record right before I try to get a job.
We really need some income so I can't blow that just to see some high school football schmuck forced to take the test again. -

Can't fault you for that. It's tough to fix the system when it is already taking all your energy just to survive.
Good luck with the job hunt...
and saving up enough money so you can move.

Yes, just as much as it drains the batteries at night time!
otherhalftw Thanks this. -
Next time you're out driving at dawn or dusk, in the rain or in heavy traffic; look at the traffic coming towards you. Which do you pick up first and/or the furthest away, the ones with their headlights on or the schlubs with em off?
Still find it hard to believe the number of so-called truckers driving in low-visibility conditions with nary a light on.
