I am new to the industry and will be gone for a few weeks at a time. I was wondering if there are other drivers here with toddlers at home while you are gone for weeks at a time? What is the best way to approach this lifestyle as a new driver and what are the effects on your wife/husband and children at home while you are gone? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

    Think of it as ...

You stay home, toddler starves to death.

You (parent birdie), goes hunts for worms, brings back for baby birdie to eat, baby birdie survives....

Where is your location? May be some local or regional jobs that pay well and can at least be home weekends.
    Have you already started school?

It was a rough start, but you (hopefully) develop a routine or plan with the loved one, It'll go much smoother. I have a soon to be 4 year old, transitioning to my company helped with not missing as much of his life. Home sometimes during the week and most weekends. Hope that helps.

You dont have to, if you set it up right.

I'm out 3 days (leave sun nite, return wed Eve), with $4K+ gross. I'm off Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun. All running on loadboard/broker.

Oh, I just hit 2 yrs on my CDL (own MC/own truck)

It's not done. In fact. The State when they find out you are all over the USA when your spouse cries out in stress, pain and has enough of fixing baby 24/7 with you gone? ooo we can't do that.

Its not fair to either one of you. Go home raise the baby. Share the parenting with spouse. All will be well. When the child is 18 and gone, you can roam the USA with the spouse in trucking.

Leaving babies at home and being on the road 2000 miles from home at the food counter in the truckstop with 50 people carefully listening to you whine... "BUT HONEY...." into that crappy phone with the baby screaming in the background. It's just not smart.
