What’s the point having babies if you are not there to raise them?
Leaving a wife home alone for weeks at a time she will get “ baby brain” and resent the mofo who knocked her up and went gallivanting around the country

I’ve got a soon to be 10 year old. Between CDL school and testing I was out about a month with a few short days at home. I’m getting ready for my first OTR.
We gave my son an old iPhone we have to only be used for calling me. He understands that it might be 6-10 hours before I call back. We’ve got an unlimited plan so we FaceTime. It turns out that really normalizes being away. 20-30 minutes of FaceTime and it feels like I’m there. It feels good. I went to great lengths to make sure he understands that I’m legally not allowed to text/call/hold my phone/look at pictures etc. We stopped a local sheriff who immediately picked up the point I was trying too make to reinforce what I’m not allowed to do. It drove the point home.
When I’m home, I’m 100% home. My focus is on him, and then my wife. I ignore everything else. My wife takes care of the daily/weekly/monthly stuff so my hometime is actually fun. We home school our son so that really opens up options for him to be a rider (at some point) and for us to communicate when convenient.
To add regardless of how tired or annoyed I am when either he or my wife are on the line I’m focused on them.
Like @nax my longer term goal is to go O/O.
Or win the lottery.Maj. Jackhole, Just passing by, Truckermania and 2 others Thank this. -
In today's world of electronics and instant communication you do not have to be a stranger to your child. Face time on a smart phone and all kinds of social networks out there.
TaterFox, otterinthewater and Otsego Thank this. -
Get out now well you can. It takes a very extra special woman. To marry be faithful and raise the kids alone. Not saying yours isn't, just saying thats a lot to put on her. And if she is a special one. She WILL want nothing but the best. So abouy the time your ready to get off road. You will discover you can't. Because she already enrolled the baby in exclusive private school. (You do want the best for your kid right) So climb your ads back into that 70in box on wheels and got back to work. Oh ya and surrise number 2 is now on the way.

All technology aside, and yes I use it all to stay in touch with my three grown sons and 6 grand-kids, sometimes dad just needs to be there to take on that monster under the bed. It really does take two parents.

Give your kid a tablet and skype your child. It is not always easy to find local jobs. I know as a recruiter I see some but not many.

Toddelr won't even know what's going on.
A six year old will find it harder to deal with sometimes but knowing you will return helps a lot.
The older they get, the more rational they are.
BUT this isn't like going to jail and for hundreds of years people went off to work for long periods of time. -
I am a local driver with a 4 year old and soon to be 1 year old at home. I often work 14 hours per day or more, with a 45 minute commute to/from the yard, so a lot of days I will get home just in time to see them off to bed. Some days i don’t get to see them at all. Being local/home daily isn’t necessarily the answer for everyone, but i will take my situation over being otr.

If you need help finding something local or regional in or around your area send me a message here. I'll see what I can do for you. I will not be pushy. I just want to see if I can help. Same goes for any of you. ***This is not an advertisement. It's just someone with some skills trying to help out someone else with some skills.***
