On some trucks, dumbest place ever to put them as far as getting them when you need them. My international had them there until I bought it.
I have only ever used the ones on my KW to pull it out of the snow bank after leaving it outside all winter, but always left them in just in case I needed them, if stuck it could be a royal pain to get under there and install them, until some jackwad stole one of them.
My log truck is a freight liner and has a different set up and permanent, it does get used occasionally.
Driving with tow hooks still in bumper? WTH

No doubt if these tow lug truckers had a 1693 Cat (aka the best diesel of all time) they wouldn’t need to be towed.

Unsolicited advice is awesome with zero factual back up.
I ran my White Volvo with tow hooks for 2 years with a chain running across both hooks. Not one bother from DOT or ambulance chasing lawyers.spyder7723 Thanks this. -

More dangerous then an Ali Arc moose catcher? If a truck broadsides anything its bad news.spyder7723 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
I was just writing two seconds ago how I want freight so I can have a truck like that and make money.

When I ran to oil rigs it wasn't uncommon to have "tow hooks installed" as part of the dispatch requirements. Tow hooks should have a cotter pin to keep them in place. The T800's I drove always had them in place, often as a way to undo the bull rack.
Off road is an entirely different ballgame than OTR.
By the way, those tow hooks weren't for a tow truck to hook to you. They were normally for a bulldozer. No way another wheeled vehicle is going to pull you through the deep mud or up that 20%+ grade. It requires a vehicle with tracks.okiedokie Thanks this. -
I think you missed my point. I know nobody plans to be in a crash. I dont plan to crash either. And for 27 years Ive stuck to that plan. And that is why I do not use "what if I crash" as a factor in making other plans.Truckermania Thanks this.
