I completely understand where you are coming from. Just don't sacrifice or sell yourself short because of it. If you feel comfortable enough then give the "no trainer" thing a shot. I do not know your level of experience and was just trying to give you a feel as to what to expect out there. Not just shifting and backing.
Like I said too, if you do go with a trainer and feel you are not being trained properly, don't get along, or are just running miles then definitely speak up. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary and you wouldn't be penalized if you were to switch trainers. As a trainee running with a trainer you shouldn't be running more than 4000 miles or so your first few weeks. That would be a good indication of your trainer using you for miles. Also they shouldn't be back in the sleeper while you are driving.

I have read and eard Schneider does 3 days orientation then your out with your trainer 5-12 days then 2 days back and your on your own.... It's hard to analyze what is sufficient time but I completely understand your logic and def wot be going to somewhere that offers no training time. I'm not that good or even ready without knowing some ins and outs of the business. Thanks for all the tips!

i believe school only teaches you enough to get a license learning trip planning hour management and how to spot how to handle different recievers abd shippers only happens in training

I am gettin my CDL and was wondering the same thing. I dont want to do 2 months training and get more behind in money. I dont see the logic in it. I wouldnt mind 2 or 3 weeks training.

watkins and sheperd has no trainers.you go through a training period on the yard,then off you go.
