I have been thinking it over for the last week or so about dropping my authority and signing on with Landstar. We do most of our work as a carrier for them now and its hard to stomach that thier O/O's are getting better rates than a carrier with half the expenses and a fraction of the headaches.
I figure I can save about 2000.00 per month while still turning the same revenue. I figure the only real benifit of having my authority would come from having a few owner operators signed on which at this point has not been put into play. Any thoughts on this, I would be greatful to hear your opinions on this!
Thanks in advance

If you're the sole truck in your operation, and you're working mostly for Landstar, I'd say you're on the right track. Why incur the expenses of your own authority when they provide it already?
There's nothing wrong with providing authority to other trucks *IF* you're selective about who you let run under you, and you implement a system to identify and remove any trucks and/or drivers who pose a risk to your safety rating. The key to remember is that you will be responsible for their log books, roadside inspections and crashes in the eyes of DOT and FMCSA, and, most importantly, LAWYERS!. If you're careful, and you can keep an eye on things, I think it's a good way to keep some revenue coming in that requires little overhead to earn it. -
if your gonna let it go just cancel your liability because if you put in for voluntary revocation it will trigger an audit

I did exactly what you are thinking about doing 2 years ago. The only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. I love it here at Landstar. You will have an easier time than a lot of guys that come here because you are used to doing things for yourself. Good Luck!

I have 2 trucks now was about to purcahse a third, but Landstar will only allow an O/O with 2 trucks to sign on, but aparently add on once your signed on. I dont drive any more, I have two good drivers and I hope that they can both get qualified with LS.
