I left right as XPO bought CTL out, not necessarily because I didn’t like them but I just found a better company to team with. Long story but I run local now and hate it. But, my boyfriend has finally agreed to get his CDL and go OTR with me. Before we sign on with CFI, I just wanted to get some opinions on whether or not CFI taking over has been an upgrade from CTL. So far, everything seems wonderful but this ain’t my first rodeo with trucking recruiters. Haha. On top of general teaming experience, if anyone has any experience with their whole Veteran Apprenticeship program, where they pay $1000 a month for 12 months through the GI bill, I’d like to hear about your experience with that. Thanks in advance, y’all!
So far as a new employee here I started in April I’ve loved it. It’s my first driving job though so it’s may be biased but the miles are there and it just has a huge family feel here. @RoadRooster
I remember them having the same family feeling when I was there. I was hoping they hadn’t lost that. I saw you posting a few other threads and saw you did training with them as well. Mind if I pick your brain about that? I did my training with CRST unfortunately and it wasn’t a good experience. I’m hoping for my boyfriends sake that CFI is a much better experience. Lol.
Also, from stalking your other posts, I saw you’re from Orlando. So am I. Did you ever find out about parking at the yard? I know they used to let drivers park at the XPO yard. But at that time, we were still both Conway and spaces were limited and it took someone retiring for a reserved spot to open. Lol
We have no Orlando yard. There is a Sanford yard but it’s only for trailers. They anounced about month ago that they’re currently in the works of getting us a new yard. I grew up at a local church near ucf that lets me park my truck there
Ahh, okay. So, about the school... how were the dorms? That’s like his number one concern but that’s my fault from all the horror stories I told him about CRST’s dorms. Lol. Are they clean? How many people do you room with? Do they have a shuttle, like they do (or at least did) have at the Joplin yard that will take you to Walmart and such? Did you feel safe leaving your belongings in the room? I know the recruiter said four weeks but it may be less if he catches on quick. Is that true? Also, did you have plenty of quality training when it came to backing? I know they just kinda taught you theory when I went to school and the backing test was a joke. Also, they said meals are covered. How so? Sorry for the plethora of questions. Lol.
I went to school at the roadmaster in Orlando. As for during orientation. They have you setup in the laquinta hotel and it’s two people to a room with two queen beds in it. I think females and couples get their own rooms. But I’ve heard lots of great things about crowder college where they send you for training if you do cfi’s Program. I tagged roadrooster. He’s the big cfi guru here
Ahh, thanks. I must have gotten you confused with another guy in the CFI posts that had gone to Crowder. My bad. Thank you for the help!
They’re letting me train him, yes. I’ll drive solo and go through a “crash course on finishing” until he’s done with school.
