Why is it so hard to get a job with a drug felony? People make mistakes. Is there any companiies out there that are willing to give people a second chance?

    Not too many...

There are lots of people out there looking for work that DON'T have drug convictions or felonies of any kind on their record.

If you were an employer, Would you hire a convicted felon if you had the choice of an equally qualified driver with out a felony?

    The obvious answer is....NO!

Schneider and Stevens also...Many will, some have 5, 7 or 10yrs since the felony policies and some do case by case..Don't be discouraged...

    That is limited thinking.

if you want to learn how to play baseball, you goto a baseball player or coach of that sport. You don't go to a soccer player.

If you never had a felony, well, you wouldn't know what it is like.

everybody should be looked at the quality of their work.

however there are certain felonies, that are very difficult to market yourself with.

good luck, applying to all these companies is free, if you really want to do this.

another thing you need time to pass since convicted, some say at least 7 years while others say 10.

if you do have a felony, then make sure you have a reasonable work history. This gives a good signal to employers.

go up there in google search bar, and type in felony. There are a lot of discussions about this.

I think in this economy you are going to find it harder than ever to find a decent job. For every person who wants to make their life over and live down a past, there are even more who never screwed up in the first place out there who need a job. I don't want to be too rude but hey, you f%$## up and now you're paying the price. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

I seem to remember someone saying on this board there was a company that was founded by a guy with felony convictions, but I can't remember the name of it right now. Do a search and you'll find it. This question seems to come up a lot.

sorry to say, but there are some companies (Werner for one) that has a lifetime ban on ANY type of felony, let alone a drug involved one.

this industry has been trying its best to weed out (no pun intended) the bad apples we already have.......let alone bring in more problems.

yes people make mistakes, this is absolutely true........however, the mistakes that are felonies are NOT the ones many make, only a chosen few do.......

i will say this again, if i ain't said it a zillion times already, "why is it that people with shoddy/shady backgrounds, think that trucking is going to be thier savior"....?? even people who, "always loved to drive, or always wanted to drive, or are unemployed" want to get into trucking........why........??

the trucking industry IS NOT a dumping ground for all people to take fro granted that its here, and here to stay.........far from it...........the trucking industry HAS IT'S PROBLEMS TOO..........

we have thousands of GOOD, HONEST, DECENT out of work truckers.........why on this earth would an employer hire a former felon over a PROVEN PROFESSIONAL...........???

if you really WANT TO DRIVE, and BE A PROFESSIONAL, then go to school learn, keep your nose clean, and knock on doors looking for work..........because right now i'll tell you, if you do get hired..........?? you just got lucky THAT DAY.........

Right now the companies get to choose the best drivers, they are more drivers than freight.

So reality is now to be considered "limited thinking" by the I take no personal responsibility for my own actions crowd?

Lucky me...I don't know what it's like to have a felony conviction.

Yeah and every company should just hire a person with a criminal record because those of you with criminal records think it's not "fair" to be singled out just because you have a felony conviction?

    As it should be...

    Violent felonies:

Why do we need any more hot tempered morons out here than we have already?

    Felonies involving theft:

Why would you want someone with a past that involves stealing anything from anyone to be moving and handling your valuable goods?

    Felonies that are drug related:

Drugs and the morons that use and sell and transport them have no place in this industry!

    DUI related felonies:

These people have no business being anywhere near a truck!

I have did hire a felon once. He wound up stealing from me. I thought that I would give him a chance and it might help him turn his life around. He also had a drug conviction. The reason so many are reluctant to hire felons is because most will repeat their crimes or worse. It makes it difficult for those who really want to turn their lives around, but I would be reluctant to hire another felon, especially with a drug conviction. There are high risks for the carrier should the driver become involved in a major accident or decide he needed more drugs.
