Hello there. I have recently come up with enough money to finally be able to afford to go to trucking school on my own dime. I live in Vancouver, BC but am a dual US and Canadian citizen. My fathers side is in the US. My dad actually lives in McAllen, Texas and the rest of the family is in Southern California. I really do not want to drive long-haul in Canada where it can be so isolated that you can't find a truck stop many times. My uncle drives long-haul in the US and I want to join him down there. In fact, I have wanted to drive long-haul down south for most of my life. I talked to Swift and they require students to have a US D.L. for one year before one can attend one of they're schools. I currently only hold a license in Canada and have a lifetime air-brake endorsement attached to it. Does anyone know of any trucking schools down in the US that will let me attend if I have only just recently aquired a US D.L. I am willing to travel and stay wherever the school may be. Any responses would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Dual Canadian/US Citizen without US D.L.

Well, since you're willing to pay for school, you can attend any school. It doesn't matter if you have a fresh U.S. drivers license to attend school. The problem might be getting hired, so check with truck companies first.

another idea to help with applications is to change to change your residence to the U.S.
Not sure how that is done... but if you can receive mail in the U.S. at one of the family locations that might help on applications.

Thanks Mikee. My father had offered for me to go down to Texas and get my D.L. there and said I could use his address, cool.
