Bumpy said it... drivers that drink and drive get away with it until a DWI is charged by the man, until then they have been lucky enough not to get caught. knowing what we do as Pro's is even more an excuse to abstain from drink if intending to drive. 5 years you will have to wait for an opportunity to drive pro, and it stays on the FBI list forever. The important thing the op must see is he is now responsible for his actions. he will have to "do the time" so he learns a valuable privilege is worth more than his judgment on any given day under the influence...

Could be your state or your lawyer doesn't know. However, I did do a search and just like the rest it states "while operating a CMV". Either way I am not an fan of drinking any amount of alcohol and driving, I was only stating the law.

Absolutely right. A nondriver friend (over 200 lbs) told me he drank one 22 oz beer and blew a 07. He didn't get a DUI. After hearing that though, I won't even drink a single 12 oz beer on my time off if I'm going to drive my 4 wheeler. Anyone out there know if your CDL is affected if you are drunk while riding a bike, or publicly intoxicated?

    Oh my gawd,

Here is what actually happens with LEO's:

LEO pulls off duty LEO over for drunk driving, either he sees he's not totally smashed and lets him go... or if he's totally wasted, he drives him home and drops him off... then, writes him a note saying you owe me big time.... There is NO arrest... NO conviction ... for DUI for the drunk driving LEO.... period. Being from an LEO family and knowing many of them, I'd say that what I described happens greater than 9 out of 10 times.

Your career is not over... You will have some time off, with this conviction. You will need to jump through every hoop they put in front of you. Then, when time comes for driving work again... you will need to find someone to give you a shot. The Big companies usually will not, but who wants to work for them anyway?

The biggest issue is insurance with the smaller companies, but they can and do work around it. I've seen it happen with a good friend and he is back in the seat now.

Keep your head up, and good luck.

Either way, it's just wrong. But just like everyone with power, they will abuse it till they can not anymore.

Your darn right it's wrong. This is one of the reasons, when I see a LEO post some self-righteous banter about how LEO's get punished. I tend to pounce. Growing up(in a LEO family), I saw so much of this I could write a book... and that was in small town USA... If the general public knew this they would be shocked and appalled!

    Never mind!

OP Your in luck as most people believe you should have a second chance. After a few years people will allow you to make better decisions than you have to this point. If I could offer any advice it would be to remember the troubles you face now the next time that situation presents itself.
