Dump truck work is EXTREMELY seasonal in the buckeye. I did it for several years. Everyone wants to be home every night. That said, everyone who has a 6 or 7 axle moves those trucks over to hauling salt during the winter. Rates get cut and cut some more. These folks think that "at least I'm working" pays the bills when in fact leaving your truck sit may be the better option. I learned long ago, Tractor trailer is the way to go unless we are talking about a VERY special nit of Milk trucks or something. Things get slow, hook to a van or tank. Seem like there is quite a bit of fertilizer in late winter/spring to be hauled in central OH. Just my .02.

Henderson Trucking runs a lot of product out of National Stone and Lime in Delaware and the Shelly(?) quarry on Watkins Rd. in Ostrander, but I'm not sure who dispatches loads, Henderson or the quarry. And I believe Henderson has opened a yard in downtown Columbus. You might also check with Testa Trucking on Rt.36 in Ostrander OH, but not sure if he uses O/O's.
One thing I've noticed the last 5 years in and around Delaware OH is dump trucks from far away (1 - 1 1/2 hours) that are picking up material and running loads. Makes me wonder drivers from outside central OH are driving down the profitability, as costs a lot less to live in Richland or Morrow county as it does in Columbus.

Henderson lost the National contract to Testa but both use owner operators. Forrest has the Shelly Ostrander (Watkins rd the old union agg) everything coming out of there goes through them unless it's direct buy like we do. Your right though I've seen a lot of distant trucks running around.

This pretty much sums up the dump truck business no matter where you live.

Almost ALL the Shelly places I move asphalt to in Ohio are O/O's hauling the finished product out. I pick up the 6122 or 3257 in Toledo, and deliver to MANY different and offthewall Shelly places. Business slows down during the winter, and I get stuck hauling for UPC flats with various beams. At least I don't have to draw unemployment like some of the dump guys do.
Best wishes, either way. Just something to think about!
