I'm sure rates will go up on the first of the year. When you have to run 07 or newer trucks. (Sarcasm )

"Supply and Demand"....That's what I'm banking on....If not...I suppose I'll tug freight until I retire in about 10 years....

I have talked to a few contractors and they said they are going to use Third party trucks instead of going out and upgrading....It's cheaper for them to use third party since they don't have to fork over insurance money....Pay pensions etc.....

The only wrench in my plan would be CARB exempts the same trucks they exempt now....Those who live and work in SO-CAL know of which trucks I speak of.....And the Politically Correct game SAC pulls on the hard working taxpayers of Cali...Favoring a select group for votes.....

I'm just exploring my options at this point....We'll see in about 6 months how this plays out....

So what is the best dump setup out there? Feather weight 10 wheeler, or tri-axle ? Around here you have to have a tri-axle to work. Only ones running 10 wheelers are residential contractors doing their own work ?

Rates suck now $75 for a tri-axle most places.......

I ran a Ten Wheeler and a Low-side....Depends on what the contractors think they want.....

Before I left to run freight in '08...We had a slew of Super 10's that convinced the contractors that Super 10's could carry as much as a low-side for $20/h cheaper....That was the beginning of the end.....

With the CARB deal and many contractors I talked to that are not happy with the caliber of trucking companies as in "Bottom-Feeders", who can't "follow a trench" or, know where to dump for free....They're all but too happy to have people who know the job without all of the drama that comes with the "Bottom-Feeders"....

In other words the old axiom rings true...."You get what you pay for".....

The left truck is mine, taken near Columbia CA and the right one is the new style Pete, all CARB compliant....slowly replacing trucks as needed.

I'm Jayvee and I'm an owner operator in the SF Bay area. I've been in the dirt and aggregate hauling business for a long time. I think the rates up here are going like this... $80-$85/hr for transfers and semi end dumps, flatbed, high sides. Super 10 $95-105/hr depending day or night or weekend. I run a 2006 Pete 357 with Cat C13 and 8LL. I'm just one guy working for one primary broker but average $$18-$20k per month.

Why do Super 10's get better rates than a Low-side?

They legally can only gross to 65K.....A Low-side can go to 80K on the gross....

    Am I missing something?

gotta have a long low-side to gross 80k. Our low-side is too short and the trailer tandems are not far enough away from the drive tandems and can only legally have 20k on them instead of 34k.

Rates are $80 in the bay area and $85 in Sacramento. Thanks to the " good faith" extension an the extension for '95 and older motors until 1/1/15, I dont seeing rates coming up till then. Thinking about taking my lowside to Texas
