I am looking to purchase a dump truck business and would like to talk to some experienced drivers/owners about the industry. I am a seasoned business owner but do not have any trucking experience. This company operates 40+ tri-axles and is in the Northeast. Please PM me....Thanks in advance!!!

You like to gamble? That's trucking brother. I don't care whether it's dump truck or long haul, trucking business is a gamble. The revenue fluctuates, but on the other hand, if it's done right, it can be lucrative. If I had a choice, I would do anything else but trucking. Dump truck, yes back in the 1990s my uncle made some good dough(money), but dot was so lenient then. Today it's this rule and that rule, it's complex.

I won't gamble with my money, but I am OK taking educated risks.

From what I have heard you can make money as a single truck operator or at a larger scale, but the difficulty lies in operations of 2-10 trucks. Is that theory correct?

This operation does all maintenance and rebuild work on site...even repainting of trucks. They are hauling aggregates and asphalt in the summer and salt in the winter. What makes a well run dump truck business? How loyal are customers? Do they just want the cheapest rate, or does reliability and well maintained trucks get you the repeat business?

My cousin owns about 10 trucks, and he seem to be doing fine, but then again, if you ask 5 companies they will give you 5 different perspectives. My uncle used to work with dump truck, he actually owned his. This was back in the 1990s when San Francisco international airport was being renovated. The compensation back then was lucrative. Today, I would suggest working with a dump truck company, if you want to go and buy your own, then ask some companies if you can partner with them. Finding clients is always hard, but not impossible, so I would start by searching local dump truck jobs in your area.
