Kenworth T800 475 Cat 8LL Challmers suspension 16ft Hard Ox Body
    Best setup $128,000. Class A or B
Have Had Petes and KW and Mack. KW is the best in tri-axles.
Depends in what state your in as to what material you will haul. Here in the south you have 8 Months on good work and 4 Months of getby work.
Look for about $70,000 to $80,000 Gross and about 45,000 miles plus per year and 6 days a week weather permitting. Ten years ago this was good money but for the last few years with the cost of equipment and fuel going hirer its tough. My advice, make sure you do your research before biting the bullet.
    Lots of Luck!

Thanks Skeeter...for the Input...I'm looking at a ford L9000 ...1993 With a Cat 425 In It the work I would get around here (Ontario) would be top soil triple mix...and gravel...I,m not looking to pound the pavement like alot of truckers do...maybe 3 days a week...the rest of the time i,m working here on the farm or In the winter plowing snow.
So I need a Truck under $50,000 (Canadian)
Is air ride a must??...and what do you guys think about the Ford tri axials...still need to know If I need a "A" Ticket In Ontario for a Triaxial.
    Cheers

For top soil, or gravel then an aluminum body is fine, and lighter in lightweights at the quarries.....But if you have your choice, I would look into some of the lightweight steel bodies....I ran one for the last company that I worked with, and could still carry 22 tons....And I wasn't limited to just sand, dirt, or gravel....I could carry demo as well.....So when it's raining, and most of the aluminum's are knocked off, I could keep working on anything....

I've been in the dump truck business for the last 5 years. Its a great business to get into if your tired of being on the road. I have a tri-axle Freightliner. I carry a 60,000# tag. Aluminum bed trucks are good for top soil, gravel, and asphalt thats about it. If you want a truck you can haul just about anything in and not worry about ripping a hole in your box I would look into the light weight steel beds also. But you still gotta be on the look out when people load you. I just have a class B license. Air ride in a dump truck is good for being on the road but if you go off road a lot spring ride is the way to go. Lot less lean while dumping with spring ride. The going rate right now in Joplin Mo is $65 and hour but its $100 an hr in KC MO. Great business but its stressful at times also.

70 -80000 gross - to the truck or the driver ? -- i grossed 45 as a driver last year and didn't really work that hard -- that was at 25% of trucks gross

I started out by calling some bigger companys and told them who I was and if they ever needed another truck for anything to give me a call. And in my free time I just drove around to sub divisions looking for new houses being built, and to different job sites talking to contractors. Placing an add in the local paper has really been a big hit also. Run your name in the phone book thats a great way to get your name out there also. But be prepared for a lot of price shoppers, people always looking for someone to do it cheaper. Eventually your business will pick up just be prepared for the winter. Store your nuts during the summer cause you'll need them in the winter. Also don't cut throat your fellow dump truckers. Thats my biggest thing I dont wanna cut anyone of out there business because I dont want it to happen to me.
