The core charge is a relatively new thing. I once scrapped mine for $10 each. Went to buy new ones at Peterbilt. Found out about the $25 core charge. Ran back and bought my old ones back. Lol. Hey $45 almost buys a decent dinner for 2. Yep, I’m a cheapskate. If all adds up.
Duracell or Super Start Batteries, which do you prefer?

Replaced alliance batteries last year with TRP. Both are junk.
Alliance lasted 14 months. Bought them at TA.
Think the extra $200 for Duracells is worth a shot.
Got a 50 degree heat wave here today in Indiana so was looking to get them installed...

Good choice

Need to keep the top of the batteries clean. That dirt on top creates a parasitic draw.
That may not be what killed the batteries, but it didn’t help.Accidental Trucker, snowwy, 77fib77 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Seems like in the last 5 years battery quality has gone to hell….we have close to 100 batteries around here between trucks farm and construction. Used to be able to get decent (would last about 5 years) in town at a battery discounter. We had used just about anything under the sun over my life and used to be that the more expensive ( interstate excide and the like) usually lasted longer but were still more dollars per year than the discounter. Anymore my thoughts is just by whatever is cheapest and easiest because none seem to make much more than 2 years.

It doesn’t help that there’s a constant draw with all the computers these days. If I’m parked at home more than a couple days I always turn my battery switch off.

I typically use cat group 31 batterys. They are spendy but the ones in my ram are from 2015 and still put out their full rated CCAs and still hold 97% of rated charge. Usually got around a year year and a half out of my semi. Which sounds bad until you realize every other brands maybe lasted 3 months lol (that pete was a nightmare and had more electrical issues then the u.s power grid) the ones in our dozer are from 2014 and still go strong too, though are finally having issues.

I'll see how these hold up. The guy at batteries plus said for heavy use with a big truck, he would recommend atleast twice a year unscrewing the caps and checking/adding distilled water, which I've never done before. Guess I'll start getting into the habit. I've always used this spray on battery connections, not sure how much it really helps....
$750 out the door with 18 months warranty.
When I was returning the old batteries for credit, another fella was in there upset claiming his battery was junk but the employee was telling him it tests good on their end and therefore he wasn't getting a warranty exchange.... So not sure if I'd hold my breath getting anything in return for this 18 month warranty. Lol

I run the Super Starts from Orielly's and am really hard on them with my big bunk sleeper, usually get about 14 months out of them and get them replaced under warranty with no problem's. So I basically get 28 months out of one purchase of batteries.
