I remember when I first started off. DVIR.. oooo... Officially pretrip a truck, aha find a bunch of stuff busted. Turn in DVIR with the air of a demanding wife telling shop to fix it pronto we are late already. What does the shop do? Told me to hang tight they will call when it's done.
5hours later I go into shop to determine why the truck has not been put into the bay to fix it there is a load that has to be delivered that day.
Shop: You still here?
Drove to the truckstop, built a new work order and had them fix the truck in two hours over dinner. Since it was late I returned the truck to the yard. 580 dollars later it's back at the yard with a new morning delivery appt.
Shop boss was IRATE. I told him what part of waiting to fix so we can serve the customer making this delivery today. He didnt care about that. It's the money that escaped his books to pay the truckstop invoice. I told him that is his problem. Fix it here or fix it there I don't care, it will get fixed. Pronto.
I made a personal enemy for a while that day. Took him 6 months to cool off every time i showed up with a defect to be fixed after a pretrip and DVIR. I think what he wanted was absolute peace and quiet in that shop so he can enjoy life a little bit.
DVIR issue reporting, do you do it every day?
