Not quite correct. With the Dashlink module it does meet the requirements of ELD compliant logging. As a stand alone app, it is an acceptable means of maintaining a log. While you may run into a DOT officer that is either behind the times and simply wants to be an arse, the answer to that is to have a printer onboard and use it to print out any hard copies they require. I have a standard printer that I use along with a inverter for just this reason. Been checked a number of times and in each and every time I have simply put the tablet ( IPad ) into ( Inspect Logs ) and hand the tablet to the officer. they look at it and hand it back. never had everyone say you can't use this. Have had a few ask how I liked it ( the big road app ) but none have ever asked for a hard copy. As with ELD, make sure you carry a paper log as a backup should either your app or ELD stop working. If you want to try this app, its best used with a tablet. While you can use it on a smart phone, its more harder to use and a bit smaller looking at it. I have it on both as a backup and have used it on both. Given the choice, my days of paper logs are over with.

Learned a long time ago, that you can waste more energy fighting for money that nobody wants to pay anyways. Especially on the receiver end of things, so we just tack in onto the next load. Once you are getting paid the detention rate built in things amazingly start flowing better. I believe it is because they are worried that we keep adding in the detention on the next loads as well. Sometimes we have continued to add more on, but that was not generally due to additional detention but to their attitudes. Here is that formula for you, and I will use the final number from my previous posting.

We have gotten our $2500.00 for 1000 miles but the receiver still has workers that have bad attitudes and bang the crap out of our trailers while loading, or there is crap all over the place making it dangerous to get into their docks, we have already been compensated for our detention in advance, so now it is time to make further adjustments until they get their problems fixed.

$2500 X 5%= $125.00 so the next time we would haul to this receiver we would ask for $2625.00 for 1000 miles. We continue to do this until that receiver resolves their issues or we discontinue going to that receiver altogether. I don't tell my customers how to run their companies so when they start whining about my rate increase formula's and tell me that nobody else does it that way. I quickly inform them that they are more than free to use somebody's elses services.

Let's remember that the shipper/receiver and broker/forwarder does not pay for our clutches, tires, etc. My formula is not only based upon time, miles, but additional headaches to our operators and equipment.

So I am not off the original OP topic, our guys love the keeptruckin.com electronic log app. It is free and works flawlessly after you learn how to use it (about 1 day of playing around with it).
