I'm not sure yet. I have heard many rumors. I have read it, but I have not got a good understanding of it. Until it's about to take effect, I'm not to concerned with it. Just like when the HOS changed, I waited until it was close to changing before I jumped into it for one reason, CONFUSION. It's hard enough to change gears from property carrying to passenger carrying HOS rules. Now add another one, I'll be beating my head on the front of the truck I stop.

If they are going to be off over 34 hours and don't really need a restart but will really need a restart later in the week have them go on duty for at least 15 minutes for some reason to break the first restart .

The way I understand the ruling, it wont work for drivers currently on a weekly schedule and needing to reset their clock between weeks. There will need to be 168hrs, or 7 full days, between the end of the last restart and the beginning of the next. A guy that works 14hrs M-T-W-TH-F, and burns up his 70, would normally take a reset starting friday evening and be ready to go sunday morning. That would work once under the new rule, and then that driver would not qualify to take another reset until the following sunday morning. So he'd be ready to go monday night, oh wait the rule now requires 2 periods spent from 1am-5am... So now he's ready to go tuesday morning and can't start another reset until the following tuesday morning... So on and so on. It takes that driver going 7 days on, 2 off for 63 days before he will be starting another reset on a friday. Lemme know how that works out for ya.

If heard correctly, the 168 hours starts from the BEGINNING of the last 34-hour restart. So yeah, he can go Friday to Friday. Assuming that his schedule doesn't get jacked in the process.

Let me point you to the new regulation.
They are not saying you cannot take only one 34 hr period of off-duty per week, they are just saying only ONE of them can RESTART the 60/70 clock. You get to choose which one.

is how that will work now. provided you get that allmighty 1-5 in.
but yeah, for those us that are home on the weekends. i can see it coming down to that. logging 15 minutes each weekend day for something and going with the recap method.
shippers and receivers are usually closed during the weekend. (flatbed).
there's no money to be made cuz your not going anywhere for pickup or delivery.
i am not going to be doing a 34 during the week. when they ARE open and there's money to be made.
and as for the comment about the haters of the eobr and having hos violations.
i'll retire before i have an eobr. and i have NO violations.
my logs are done on computer. my stops are duing the day. my sleep is at night. -
I have a question then, with only retaining 8 days worth of logs what's to stop people from doing more than 1 reset? How is that going to be enforced, could a driver then roll his resets as the previous period drops off his logs?07-379Pete Thanks this.

Within a 168 hour period means within any seven day period. In other words, take Sunday 0600 to Sunday 0559. This is a 168 hour period. You can reset your hours once during this period. In other words, you can reset Saturday to Sunday and then begin another reset the following Saturday. The idea is, they are trying to mandate a five or six day work week and keep us on an even seven day schedule.
There is nothing there saying you can't take the time off. You still retain whatever hours on your 70 you had before you took an additional 34 off.
