One point that is being missed. The freight movement in this country has enormous elasticity. There is a large percentage that simply doesn't have to go "right now". And there is another percentage that can go inter modal that is going direct truck because of the cheap rates.
Take a look at the entire supply chain and how it is managed by the big players in the business. Rates and availability will be impacted slightly in the short(6 - 12 months) term. Don't go out and buy a new truck thinking that rates are going up and staying there.
E-logs gonna make o/o tons of money

There will be a rate correction that's for sure.
What I really anticipate is the shipper/receiver treatment of the carrier/driver. Elogs will force them to respect the 14 hr clock, even though it's not "their clock". This aspect, is why I don't understand/support the Oct 3 - Oct 8th "protest"bzinger Thanks this. -

What will happen is a lot of people will leave the industry and this will cut the supply to a point and rates may go up a bit but that's it.
The problem with many of you guys thinking is that the over 80% operate illegally 99% of the time, which isn't true. The numbers are closer to 3 or 4% in our industry because the megas and medium fleets have been using ELDs for a bit now and they are the driving force behind the rates, not the O/O.
The shippers won't give a crap either, they will not care if you have to deal with a 14 hour clock or a 2 hours left on your clock, they won't change just because you can't deal with the HOS. What will happen is easy to see, they will just find someone else to take their product, I see it all the time and have for years.1johnb, Toomanybikes, dunchues and 2 others Thank this. -

Skipping to the dock. I haven't done that since 2nd grade. Used to be pretty good at it, almost as good as the girls.
