05/30/14-I think I got to the bottom of the amount of the short haul pipe loads. I was told each one was $175.50. They asked if I wanted to do pipe load all next week I told them no. That would of required me to stay in the humble yard all weekend with nothing to do until Monday. Hell no to that. So it's back to oil pumps. Also I banged my shin as I was walking down those steps in the APU box. It was no big deal and it didn't.hurt so I didn't even look at it. When I got to the customer for delivery I noticed I had blood on my sock. When I rolled up my pants leg I had a small, deep gash on my shin. As a former EMT and army medic I knew that it was going to need stitches. I had a suture kit and a very basic first aid kit but I needed a little bit more stuff to clean the wound out. After I went back to the yard I told them what happened. They reimbursed me for the medical stuff I bought. After cleaning out the wound, and spraying it with lidocaine, I stitched it up. Only two stitches. I blame the mud for this. It was everywhere after the rain we got over the last few days. I'm glad I was wearing my boots and my dickies pants. They were dark blue, which was why I didn't know I was bleeding right a way. That's why I don't wear flip flops like I see a lot of drivers do.

06/08/14-It's been 2 months since I started at E.W. Wylie. I've seen enough to make a basic summary for anyone wanting to be WYLIE TOUGH!
Pay is every two weeks and the cut off to scan your loads is 2pm Monday of that pay week. Two week pay really, really, suck in my opinion in truck driving for reasons that anyone might be able to think of. They do pay you back for expenses. You can use the transflow app on your phone to scan your documents. It's best to scan them the old fashion way in my opinion.
Regional vs. OTR: Regional drivers get 27% out of every load. You get no pay for deadhead miles, or detention. You do get layover pay and breakdown pay of $96.00 a day. Sometimes you can get hourly pay for certain loads, but you won't get paid for your hours of work until the load is delivered. If the load is a split load (aka relay) you might not get paid until the NEXT payday. OTR Drivers get paid .41 cents per mile (zip code to zip code) Tarp Pay is $50 a load. Certain loads really suck on % pay.
Money making loads on % pay: Oil Pump loads. Most pipe loads. Local short haul pipe loads can be around $175 a load. If all you do for one week is short haul pipe loads in a perfect world you can do 5. Most likely you'll do 2-4. Oil Pump loads you can get between $414-$550+ a load. These are two part loads, one driver delivers one part and the other driver deliver's the other part.
Loads that suck on % pay: Salt loads from NM and you have to tarp them. When I saw how much I got paid for that load I would of cried if it wasn't for the breakdown pay I had because of the trailer. The miles were 585 loaded. The % pay for me was like $166.87 with the tarping amount included. If I'd got paid per mile for this load I'd made more money
The Humble Texas Yard and The Fargo Yards: Both parking areas are dusty. Buildings are basic, not state of the art, but they are ok. The washing machines are high tech though (HE soap only). Humble yard has 7 reclining leather seats, soda machine, microwave, coffee pot, and 60 inch flat screen T.V. in the drivers area. They do have Wifi. The one shower is inside the mens room. Which becomes unisex when the office closes after 5. The shower booth is really small. I'd go to the Flying J on 45 or 610 to take my showers if I know I'm going to spend the night at the yard. Walmart is a 12 minute walk away if you want exercise or you can bobtail there. If the office is open, you can use the company Pick Up truck on weekdays. The Humble yard is nearly pitch dark at night but the building has a coded entrance.
The Trucks: Macks mostly. If you want a high chance of getting a nice truck go OTR. You'll get a truck between 2012-2015. If you are regional out of Humble good luck. You might get a truck between 2010-2015.
The People: People at the humble yard are pretty nice. At least to me. I'm still getting to know folks so that might change.
There is more stuff. I'll post as I think of them. -
