This can work here. But some things need to change. If they're not willing to let us do rate cons, then set up a dedicated department to handle them. The delays caused by deactived fuel cards are completely unnecessary, leave them on, if you feel you can't then start hiring a better caliber of driver. Period. The payroll dept needs a complete revamp, so do the settlements. It's understandable with study, but why does it even need to be studied? We need to be able to utilize more brokers, or should I say we need more than a couple of folks working on that process. Going on the boards only see two brokerages we can use out of hundreds of loads is beyond counter productive. And for Gods sakes if the load is on a credit hold for whatever reason, at least give me the address and activate the fuel card so I can start rolling.
I want this to work. Believe me I do lol. I try to stay positive, I'm always polite but I do have a limit. I have an eight year old and a three year old who cannot wait for potential to become progress.
This is a 100% O/O, L/O operation. Someone once told me they'd like to model this after TMC. Landstar, Mercer, ATS and Keen Transport should be the models ( At least for the flatbed division). You don't see them hauling steel, lumber or any other prefab none sense either.
Ok rant over, back to work lol. I'm still trying to make it happen, but long story short, I'm only part of the process. Can't do this alone.

If they would let us work with any broker that has a good credit and payment score, let us do our own rate negotiations and cons, and or give us a board like what Schneider, and Landstar have, this would be the job to have.
They wouldn't need recruiters, the drivers would do the recruiting themselves.Loke, Westenntrucker and fr8monkey Thank this. -

Any other ideas for improvements? Mine only seem to be define the role of the dm......what are they supposed to be doing? Loading us? Negotiating rates? Finding the freight? I'm still confused there actual role as far as loading, freight and rates. I'd like that defined more clearly...
Loke Thanks this. -
