Driver,
its not that big of a deal. There is a step test they check your pulse at the end. They show you how to do all exercises. Then you do them. They are all industry related task. Some lifting and bending required. The ladder climb to simulate climbing on top of the truck. It took about 1 1/2 hour. Most of that was paperwork.

thanks for the quick reply...im not too concerned with the pre work screen, ive been on unemployment since jan. so ive been sitting on my butt for 7 months. i tried the one minute step test and i did ok, but barely made it...anything over a 1 min. test and i may be in trouble. my legs were aching lol...as far as pushing, pulling, lifting the 30 and 60 lbs however many feet ill do ok....im just looking for some details about whats involved.
-
crawl under a trailer, open a hood. My advise is get a 20lb weight and work with it. I had to strengthen my lower back to sling hoses on the job. Not the test.

thanks for all the replys....im sure after im on the job I will get back into shape. Being 7 months since ive driven im sure my road test and pre trip will be a little ugly lol. So whats the normal time on the step test they give? on a few trucking sites im seeing one minute.

The trucks are automatics so don't worry bout shifting

automatics huh? is it pretty self explanatory for that or is there a learning curve? and anyone out there if you can give me ideas of whats involved in step test etc id appreciate it..thx!

TM said no one flunked the test. Trust me they are going to be cramming lots of info in you in a short time. Hope you get a decent trainer, one that takes it real serious.
I blasted them on a exit interview by an independent about the training. I was supposed to do several hours of class room training. Never did it. One trainer refused to train anymore because they turned his trainee loose to soon in his opinion. The guy screwed up shortly there after going solo. He either got canned, or was asked to quit.
You are going to be working in the heat, with gas fumes, with wiggly heavy hoses. You have to walk the fuel out of them. Figure 6-8lbs a linear foot of hose. Lots of bending. A little exercise ahead of time is a good thing. -
D is for drive..lol..just kiddin. The newer ones are pretty much like a car, the older ones have a clutch you only use to start and stop.

Don't get in any hurry taking off. They shift slow and take off slow. The paddle shifters on the Freightliners are strange.
Are the going to E-logs yet? Qualcoms instead of the POS hand helds?
