Keep doing it over and over till you can teach others. I did them so much in school I could list every part and visualize it on the truck without looking at it.

i think most of us roll up our windows now. as it would be assumed that they either want money, or are soliciting sex.

True,I wouldn't knock on a drivers door,he could be sleeping.I would ask a driver that's outside maybe inspecting his trk or talking to another driver and if he had some time to kill and didn't mind assisting me.

    Try This:

Drivers side front: Tires, brakes, suspension, steering, hoses, fluids

Passenger side front: Tires, brakes, suspension, exhaust, belts

Rear of truck: tires, brakes, suspension, 5th wheel

Trailer Tandems: tires, brakes, suspension, sliding locking pin

Work a Theme first, then add detail later to your routine, its easier to add other items after practicing hitting the most common grouping of parts.

Such as: when i walk up to the truck trailer...im looking for two things: leaks & physical damage

you cant name TOO much... a lot of it is common sense honey, dont panic. they (previous posters) have really named what you need to worry about , MAKE SURE when you go down the other side YOU NAME EVERYTHING AGAIN..DONT say, and i would check the same stuff as the other side, GO THRU IT ALL AGAIN. CDL manuals have cheat sheets...when you initially approach the truck, look for any leaks on the ground, anything that may be hanging down. you can do it, just dont let your nerves over ride you...

i had no mechanical knowledge of a car, let alone a truck when i got my CDL, and i scored 114 so you can do it !!!! PRACTICE, STUDY, TRY AND CALM DOWN....my nerves screw me up sometimes too...just breathe...

Repetition and memorization. It's not like you're building a rocket to mars. Just go over it until you've got it. Then, don't forget to do it once you've got your CDL.
