What kind of key switch is on these new trucks? I don't think my FLD switch is any different than a lawn mower!

Yeah, most (older) trucks have simple wafer key locks; I know the newer models have double sided keys, with sidebar ignition locks (similar to cars), but as long as there is no chip/transponder; starting the truck shouldn't be that hard(?)

really US trucks got too simple ignition locks and really easy to start them. For example any freightliner got two relays in fuse box - 15 (ignition) and 15R (acc). So easy to jump them with wire. Volvo - yep - the same relays in PDM.

To crank is easirer you can imagine - jump kl50 lug on starter with red wire with screw driver ore jump starter relay.

Volvo and International steering column are lockable, but I can surelly say that I of 170 lbs weight can brake Volvo steering wheel lock... and thief can use pry bar!

Good news - TRW, Cummins, Temic control units support immobilizers. But if someone wants to steal truck - he can use special software to disable immo ore put his ECM on engine to drive away.

Yep, I can imagine how many crooks may read this thread, but belive me, they know how to steal truck ore car much better then U can imagine.

The only way to protect is to use non standard ways, like door locks purchased somewhere in Europe ore Asia (not in China, becouse made in China locks are used worldwide). For example I use locks made by local Russian company becouse they differ from locks we have on market.

Great post! But using obscure door locks will only help to an extent - what if the thief breaks the window or slim jims the door?

Maybe a foreign ignition lock would be better?

Hidden relays that control power to the engine ECM and/or body ECM is the best way to prevent a stolen truck.

I opened an almost new '11 or '12 TransAm KW (T600?) with a '02 KW heavy wrecker key! When either the key or wafers are worn, it gets pretty easy to finesse the lock open.

Pretty technical terms for someone who started the thread with I lost my key... what wires do I need to jump, as if you'd never seen an ignition before.
