I’ve been an airline pilot for over 20 years. I was flying for a Chinese airline and lost that job in December because the company had financial troubles. I received a job offer from a US airline pretty quickly but then Covid happened and that’s in limbo now. I’m pretty sure that won’t materialize anytime soon.
Now I’m stuck. No clue what to do but have always been interested in trucking.
Are there a lot of opportunities out there for a new driver now? I’m thinking of enrolling at a local school.

Plenty of jobs for you in trucking.
I flew, as a passenger, in Cathay Pacific and now use Hainan Airline.
Where do you live; state & nearest town/city?
We can give you some ideas as to decent trucking companies that will hire from your area, right out of cdl school.

It don't pay like flying an airplane, or not what I've always been led to believe flying an airplane pays at least.

It's not the 90's anymore. To get to the left seat on a real plane in a major takes 6-8 years at almost sub-30K salary. The same type of people are on airline boards as are on mega boards - do you think they see any difference in whoever's driving their revenue freight?

A lady was on here a couple years ago that said she was switching to trucking because she was only making about $17K as a regional pilot.

That's true enough, what's being a left seat pilot pay these days anyway?

The pay can vary greatly. China was really short of pilots. I made $260k last year and before I lost the job signed a contract for $317k after tax.
I was working for a Hainan subsidiary.
Currently living north of Buffalo NY.

You are going to do fine. Do your year in a good starter company and you've got a ticket that treat you well.

No stews, though. You don't want to play around with what you find around truck stops asking for a look at your ####pit.

Quick google search provides a range of 26K-113K (and higher.)

    Sounds like ####ing trucking. :)
