This question is for those who have had a heart attack or angioplasty procedure. My stents were installed in earlyJune. If I return to driving I am worried about what I will eat. Even now I am having trouble adjusting to the low fat/no salt diet when not at home. Fast food is a no/no as is a lot of restaurant fare. I am a company driver and have always had a truck with a fridge . I also bring a 12 volt cooler. When the truck has an inverter I bring a microwave. BUT some of the foods I was nuking have almost a day's worth of sodium. Canned soups and chili are out. Same for those Hormel meals. My wife always prepares chicken breasts in the oven and cuts them up. I start out with enough salad for 2 days. Always have canned tuna. She also packs some egg salad ( without the yoke). I used to have trail mix, corn chips, mini chocolate bars, M&M's and other junk. NOT NOW!. I do bring cereal and am not drinking milk. Only soy milk. But after 3 or 4 days I will be out of a lot of the good food. There is almost nothing in a truck stop that I can eat. I used to love the J's loaded Pizza! Wal Mart ( when available) does have nice ready made salads and low fat luncheon meats. A rotisserie chicken is too much for one guy. How long will that chicken keep? What do others do? Looking at the guts on a lot of drivers along with an extra 50 lbs. there must be lots of drivers who have had heart attacks.

Well first, THERE ARE THINGS you can eat at a truck stop, just look for the "heart symbol" next to the item, or ask for the "healthy menu".

first of all, are you even cleared to drive, and have you had a new DOT physical as well?????????
    your employer may demand that.

My dad has had 2 stents, back in May of 2011.

He has congestive heart failure and kidney failure, but he is NOT on dialysis.

    dad is 91 years old.

he does NOT use extra salts, and when mom goes grocery shopping, SHE DOES FIND low sodium cold cuts, soups, gravy's etc, etc, so they ARE OUT THERE.

You will do fine, the amount of salt you use is up to you, I try not to use salt myself, but I will use more black pepper. I try to cut down on the amount of gravy on my smashed potatoes as well.

Oh and by the way, my 91 year old dad, STILL has a small glass of wine with some of his suppers, and he most certainly WILL HAVE some of my beer.

Wanna know what the doctors say when ever we rush him off to the hospital.??

Sure, why not, you made it this long.>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The chicken will last a week in the fridge. I used to buy one, let it cool, then strip all the meat off it and put it in baggies. Never had an issue. I only had a 12v fridge too.
