Eating clean while driving over the road?

    I've been doing it since high school and have maintained the same weight since. I know it's all an individual basis on what works best though. To be fair, I'm in my mid 20's, so metabolism is just naturally higher anyways. Might have to change it up as I age.

    It's just been a thing for so long for me that I don't really try and do it -- it's just when I naturally get hungry now. The only real benefits I get from it is a more stable energy level throughout the day. If I was doing a physical sector of trucking like food service, I'm sure it wouldn't work out as well.

    My self control, or lack of, is more of an all or nothing thing. My small meals throughout the day would turn into full meals and feeling like trash. Just works better for me to not eat at all until dinner time. Occasionally I'll have a lunch or breakfast though.

    These are the key points for me personally, and maintaining my health out on the road.
    #1. Get adequate sleep. At all costs. If you have sleep apnea or something like that, you need to deal with it. Get the weight off and get rid of it. When you’re tired all the time, this is when you crave bad food and you don’t want to do physical stuff. I get serious empty carb cravings when I’m overly tired.
    #2. Before you leave, have your own healthy food with you. As much as you can take on the truck. Try and pick meals that you can prepare quickly and easily on the truck that are still healthy. I eat a lot of grilled steak with things like a spinach, salad and sweet potato. Then I’ll mix it up with grilled chicken. I always eat my own breakfast and my own coffee. Plus you’re saving a lot of money.

    #3. Before you run out of all your own healthy food and end up eating truckstop, food, or hitting the buffet line, find a Walmart or somewhere to stop at or get on Instacart and have them deliver healthy food to your truck.

    you know, they say truck drivers don’t have as long of a life expectancy and I believe that’s mostly because of the crap food. We eat out here on the road. I don’t think it’s just all the sitting…You can counter that by getting out and doing a walk. even just a 20 minute walk every day will counter all that sitting you do. The reason truck drivers die young is because we’re eating too much crappy food. And if you do get the weight off, keep it off. Right now I’m mad at myself. Last year I lost like 35 pounds and for a truck driver I was in pretty darn good shape. Then I gained it all back. Lol now I’m in the process of losing it again. It’s easier to just get it off and keep it off.

    I have been buying bags of Frozen avocado chunks over the past month to eat on the road and it has been a revelation for me. I love eating avocado and find it to truly be a superfood from my nutritional needs, my favorite thing to do is to sprinkle nutritional yeast on top of it and just eat it as is. I usually eat about a pound per day at least. Petro and TA truck stops have been selling these really nice macadamia nuts from Hawaii that I have become addicted to, that is another superfood for me.

    The best thing that I can recommend is eating low carb low sugar foods because it is really really easy to become pre-diabetic or a full-blown diabetic as a truck driver simply due to all the temptations to eat all the poor food choices.
