Eaton 10 speed leaking air out of solenoid when in lo range . Does not shift . When in high range 6-10 gears work. L shaped solenoid is getting air to but hi/lo ports . What’s next to try ? Pull off top plate ?Any suggestions? TIA
On an eaton 10 speed you have an air pressure regulator and a slave valve, never heard of a solenoid. I would start with finding and repairing the air leak and go from there, no need to disassemble the transmission yet.
Wonder if the range piston is leaking internally? Backfeeding air back to the valve in the shift knob? 10 speed is rare around here so not much experience with them
it’s leaking in lo out of the bottom of the l shaped solenoid . Almost like back pressure .I’m assuming that there is dirt/rust built up around the piston. Wonder if I can spray something in the 2 small holes that go down to the piston
Thanks: Now we all know what you are taking about. Some others can probably help more than me as I am a bit out of touch with those lately. That is a valve. It has a lever out the bottom of it into the transmission. Its job is to not allow the range valve to shift unless the transmission is in neutral. The range valve is on the top right rear of the transmission. I am thanking there is a shuttle valve on it and only one small line goes from this valve to the to the range valve. I would need another picture to possibly answer. I am thanking the valve in your hand is bad. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a way to test that instead of swapping parts.
View attachment 391891 I was told by mechanic that piston in transmission is bad (circled see picture). I just bought a new valve but the one in my hand seems to be working fine . I’m starting to think I might have to rip out top plate of transmission
Eaton website has info on a lot of there stuff for free. Put in the trans model number and should have an air troubleshooting tree for your transmission. If that piston is leaking probably just an o ring bad.
