My driver drives a Freightliner Columbia with Eaton Autoshift. This is a three pedal truck with a clutch pedal.
We have a cold spell here about 0 degrees.
He reports erratic shifting in the first two miles of the journey, then he says all becomes good. Any idea what may cause it? He says that it seems to be changing RPM wildily etc.

I could not tell ya for sure, but my century auto freaks out at 10 degrees. Probably wouldn't even shift at 0.
-
Frontman, but did you ever find out why it does it? Does it go away after some initial time on the trip?
-
Warm the truck up, and what you described is more than likely normal in these temps. My 18 spd manual is rough shifting until I get everything up to temp. Nothing to worry about.

Agree with Justucking2 ... always gets better as truck temp rises.
Like your driver reports, just don't shift normal at those temps when leaving out.ichudov and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
+3, we never trouble anything like that unless it happens at warmer temps. Cold just changes everything.
ichudov Thanks this. -
Same here lately, in 5-15 degree weather, my '15 cascadia with dt12 was acting sluggish, around 6th gear shift. Did it a few times couple days in a row at start of day, not real warmed up yet, so must be the cold.

Electric motor struggles just as much as your right arm when fighting cold transmission fluid!
ichudov Thanks this.
