I personally think it’s to long legged for your operation. Carrying that much weight I believe the engine is struggling with the torque and that why your getting your issues. I asked my transmission specialist about this when I had 2 different truck when when they where going thru a rebuild. He told me don’t do it, Transmission runs hotter and there is more stress on the components. So I kept my 13’s as per the specialist. Besides in in Commiefornia, the great speed of 55 which I add another 10-15 when I driving and my gear ratio is perfect.

The grinding high to low is the high low synchro in the rear box. All the 613 and 513 speeds do not split like the later 713 and 913. You leave your OD button in high shift to next gear then flip it down into direct run it out back to OD and repeat. We called that double walk-in the button back in the day. If it was mine I’d find a 15 over and put in it with those 3.36 rears. I know you won’t be able to split the top but all they tell you that gains you don’t. A 15 over is spaced just right for a B on 3:36 rears. Hit a hill drag it to 9th and go on up. It’ll still run 65 with no problem in 9th and you’ll want to run it on up to 70 to get high gear. I run one that way a long time pulling a cow bus wasn’t much got around us.

if I didn’t do that I’d find a later 13 for it but with no core grab your ### Fred cuz nobody will take thst 14613 as a core. Really the RTOO was designed to run with rears geared really low like in the 5’s and 6’s. It has a .62 overdrive in final drive. Where the RTLO 13 has .73 still too much really for your setup. A 15 is going to be .79 which works well. And the RTO14613 has .87 which is a touch too low in high gear. Someone was trying to build the impossible there. Sure it pulls them tall gears bobtail. But with a wagon and loaded one at that it’s like a 4cylinder ranger and a 5 speed once you put it in high. Just too much to pull out. Since the back of the trans is short lived I’d start there. Ain’t nothing you do here be cheap. But if you don’t do something it’s gonna get expensive and quick
