    My 10 speed would do that in 9th gear and i replaced the shift tower and no more issues of it popping out of gear.

    First of all. Alot of bad info posted here. First pull shift tower. You will see three spring sticking up, if not one is broken. Even if the are sticking up pull them out and make sure they are not broken. If they are get new set and ask for the detent balls. You can stick a magnet down hole and remove them. I recommend replacing detent balls with detent springs. If springs are good. It will be the sliding clutch on main shaft between 4th and 5th gear in mainbox. And remember this when anyone says that you dont need to use the clutch and can float the gears. This sliding clutch on 4 and 5 is shifted the most its 11 and 13 on hi side of trans. You will see the teeth ground of. Or layed back. It will look ground down on forward gear which is direct.

    And im now correcting my own post because i miss read. If the shifter pops out. See above. If the shifter is staying in place. Check spliter valve and assembley in back of trans.

    The stick stays in I think it does it in all direct gears On high side had it come out of 10th as well stick still in hole but sounds like you missed your split shift . Have not had it come out of any over drive gears. Should say truck had pto on it but the dealer took it off before I bought it hopefully something dumb going In shop tomorrow

    @jamespmack
    Is your solution easily accessed through the floor? Can it be done by someone who has never done it before? Is it costly? LoL
    I've got the issue with the shifter popping out of the 10-11 hole (sometimes 4th).

    You can access the detent balls and springs while the transmission is in.

    If you remove the piece that's on the floor so that you can see down to the shift tower, take the four bolts out and lift the shifter out and you'll see the Three Springs there. Clean all the rounded first and be careful dirt does not fall into the transmission. Do as they say in the post above and use the magnet to pull the balls out.

    If it is the shift Fork or the sliding clutch the transmission has to be removed.

    The shift Fork comes out when you take the top of the transmission off, and to replace the sliding clutches the transmission has to be disassembled.

    Any idea what the kit is called or the cost of it?

    The only part that you can service without removing the transmission are the 3 detent balls and Springs. They are very inexpensive. Anywhere that sells transmission parts for your type of transmission will have them.

    jamespmack and HoneyBadger67 Thank this.

    Yes and no, you can access way more than that with trans in place. You can rebuild top cover, rear box without removing trans.

    I wasn't thinking about the rear box. That's a good thought.

    Can you really take the top cover off while the transmission is in? I did not realize that was possible.

    jamespmack Thanks this.
