Hi so I bought a Sterling service truck and after a couple of weeks I found it grinding in first gear. I thought the clutch might need to be adjusted but when I got under it it was missing the clutch brake. My local Napa only caries one type of clutch brake but when I went to install it it was to big. I also cant feel any grooves on the input shaft. Im wondering if my Eaton Fuller 6 speed transmission even has a clutch brake? If it doesnt how do I get my trans to quit grinding in first gear?

It will not have a clutch brake. Should be a syncro trans, syncros match gear speed to let it go into gear. I think proper clutch adjustment is 3/4 inch from pressure plate to the release bearing? Ill see if I can find the manual on it.

Edit: Manual attached. If its a 2 disk clutch its 3/4 of an inch.

Like pushbroom said, eaton 6 is not a big truck trans. That is a syncro trans. IT does not have a clutch brake and is not supposed o be double clutched or gears floated. Is to be driven like a stic shift pickup truck or passenger vehicle. Those synchro 6 trans are junk and always fail which is your issue. The synchros are shot. The previous owner drove it like a semi truck and ultimately messed it up. You can continue driving it that way or drop the trns and replace it. ILl bet that sterling yo have also has a small 7 liter cat in it.
