Where are the numbers to identify an EF trans? I've got a 13spd in my old 359 and a 13spd in the 377 I just bought. I am trying to switch the wet kit over and got the pump up and in and without the pump being engaged it's making a whining noise like it's halfway engaged. I believe it to be the same trans but would like to check the numbers just to be sure. Any help?

You need to add thickness to the mounting gasket to the trans for proper gear back lash. You're too tight now and that's causing the whine.
-
How do I go about checking this? Any idea what the appropriate thickness is?
-
Official method would be trial and error on gasket thickness selection and a dial indicator on the PTO driven gear, but most do it yourselfers find a gasket combo that allows the gear to rock back and forth slightly after mounting is tightened up. They are straight cut gears so backlash measurement is not highly critical, just as long as you have enough.

Added a .010" gasket and voila, problem solved. Amazing that the tolerances are that tight in the thing.

It should be checked it with a dial indicator. Take the cover off the PTO and check the backlash of the gear. Depending on you PTO it should be in the 10-20 thousandths range. What's the PTO for? Depending on the trannys it may not run the same % of engine speed as before. You can check by looking up the trans on Eatons site.

This particular PTO has no cover to check the lash. Looked it up on Chelsea's site and it basically said add gaskets until it doesn't make noise. Very official. Still dumps at the same rate though. It operates the pump for my end dump.
