EGR probe for each cylinder?

I have a C-15 that I would like to monitor temps of each cylinder. I'm thinking that way I could find a bad injector. Cut out test isn't working. Could I drill manifold at each port and install 6 probes. Like I have done on my snowmobile. Anybody ever do this?

It would probably be easier to get an infarred temp gun, run the engine to operating temp and check each cylinder with the temp gun.

    baha Thanks this.

Im sure someone has done it. I've often thought about doing it and using a data logger to monitor what is happening in each cylinder under different engine loads.

You can do a cylinder cut out test down to one cylinder on a Cat.
I have tried using an infered temp gun on a running engine it does not work to much heat transfer. Using water in a spray bottle works better but not good. Removing the manifold , and running it works, some injectors will work 95% of the time, at lower output and a cylinder cut out test checks them a a higher delivery rate. I would do a complete valve set and check every conection on the injectors, and actuators, looking for loose wires, loose conections, and wires worn, usually a tie strap will be broken alowing the harness in that area to come down.
Drilling holes in the manifold is an expencive idea, the old manifolds, "A" & "B"s, some came with 1/4 inch pipe plugs below every port.
    Just a thought!

Heat soaked manifold would not be accurate enough.

OK, Here's the deal, Fabco (local Cat dealer) just did me a platinum in frame. Truck smokes white (raw fuel smell) like crazy when cold. I took it back, they did all the cut out test. They say it all checks out. It's not even safe to follow for 1/4 mile, till smoke clears. When warm it runs good and no smoke. It's MBN bridge motor, and it didn't smoke with the old injector. I wanted them to pull the new injectors and test them, but they have to send them out for test and refuse to do all 6.

They (Fabco) obviously does not have the ability or desire to fix it correctly, your "Platinum" rebuild has a nation wide warranty, I would find one that does. Just because it says Cat on their building and shirts doesn't mean they are an expert at anything.(except emptying your wallet)

White smoke when cold is WHY I did an inframe on my MBN lol!! Turned out the head gasket was gone on #4. It never pushed any coolant, and passed all the cylinder cut-out tests when warm. Once my engine was warm it didn't smoke either.

I wonder if they got all the protrusion heights correct?
