It will indeed be interesting to see how it all plays out. Can only hope it doesn't lead to those crash and death issues. And I think we can all agree... it is not about safety, it is about an agency wanting full compliance and a way to justify their existence and government budget. The old Clinton line of "It's for the Children" to get this stuff thru. Now that we probably have a consensus on what it all means, now we can focus on how to deal with it.

Well, looking over what I typically do, I can cut 1 run out every other week and stay below the "8 days in 30" requisite for having an ELD. If that's all it takes, hell...that's 2 or 3 extra days off per month I'll get to have to do other things if shorter runs aren't available to do on those days. So, I'll keep doing what I'm doing for 1 year and 11 months...and 30 days prior to the compliance date, I'll scale it back to make sure I stay at or below the "no more than 8 days during any 30 day period" threshold...meaning no ELD for me. Just circle my RODS days on a calendar to keep track and don't exceed 8 in any 30 days and I'll be golden.
Straight Stacks and Al. Roper Thank this. -
I've run loose leaf and elogs and even though I didn't mind having the ELD I'm of the opinion it should only be mandated as a punishment for carriers with bad HoS compliance issues. Making an otherwise safe carrier absorb the additional cost of these doesn't encourage safe roads, if anything it only makes the situation worse.
peterbilt_2005 and RGN Thank this. -

I'm in a 62 mph Crete truck with elogs, every work. zone I have the no name trucks race by, even though the speed limit already dropped to 55 or 45, and you cause me to slow way under the speed limit so you can pass and hard brake to get in front.
Thanks
