So did I read wrong or are crashes INCREASING?
-
If truck numbers increased 30%, or whatever that number is, and crashes increased less than 30% it may indicate an improvement of safety. Then there is the comparison by miles driven before & after ELDs. -
Bean Jr. Thanks this.

TurkeyCreekJackJohnson and kemosabi49 Thank this.

Well. I don't know how anyone can drive 11 hours without getting tired. Specially in a job that changes hours everyday.

They were selling the ELD mandate as a safety improvement, not as a modernization device. There's no clear evidence it helped safety at all. I doubt that FMCSA would accept or let alone fund any studies showing adverse effects of ELDS; running with fudged paper logs was safer than running legal. ELDs may provide a good fleet management tool, enabling tracking, IFTA reporting, and driver behavior but that's not something every small carrier or owner operator needs to spend money for.
