That's right. These drivers that have their own authority sometimes don't realize that company drivers are at the mercy of the company they drive for. Technically we have unlimited personal conveyance time if we needed it, but 99% of companies limit it in some way which means a logbook violation if it's exceeded. But is it REALLY a logbook violation if you only violated a company rule?

Every company I have worked for that had PC had it set up where it would put back on driving if you exceeded the time limit. If you were out of service hours it would be a violation, if not it just used your drive time .

Please, let's see if i understand correctly, what you said to me before about the 11 Hour Rule.
Ex, 1) Pre trip, ( On duty status, lets say, takes 30 minutes), 2) Drive to a shipper ( I spend 6 hours to get loaded), when I leave the shipper, as you said before, i won't have 10 and half hour left to drive, but only what's left of the 14 hour shift Rule, IN THIS CASE I SHOULD HAVE 7 HOUR LEFT TO DRIVE? CORRECT? And thats because, the 14 Hour Rule WONT STOP EVEN IF IM NOT DRIVING. In other words, if i would have had 10 and half hour left to drive ( ONLY AN EXAMPLE, ), then the 14 Hour Rule, wont make sense. Because if i would have had 10 and half hour left ( DRIVING TIME, ONLY AS AN EXAMPLE), then the total would be: 30 min ( Pre trip) + 30 min ( Drive to Shipper)= 1 HOUR ( Every thing counts toward the 14 hour Rule). Plus 10 and half ( Drive time LEFT), TOTAL WOULD BE = 1HR + 10 AND 1/2 = 11 AND HALF ( WHICH WOULD EXCEED THE 11 HR ALLOWED). But in the example YOU MADE OF THE 11 HR RULE, The breakdown ( CORRECTLY), would be: 30 min ( Pre trip)+ 30 min ( Drive to shipper)= 1 HR, + 6 hours ( WAIT TO GET LOADED)= 7 HR, ( Plus 7 HR left to drive), TOTAL = 14 HOUR RULE, WHICH IS YOUR EXAMPLE. Do i get this right?

    Redtwin Thanks this.

Look i understand that is annoying to see same thing, over and over again, i apologize if I asked this question, but I really appreciate people who are trying their best to help me to understand how that works. For you, an experienced trucker might be simple and annoying to see, but to me which i never even started to drive yet, is very important to learn. That's why I'm investing time in learning as much i can, before I even start. I apologize to cause inconvenience to others, but please try to be patient. Thank you very much

Remember that you can log off duty while waiting to be loaded/unloaded. As the freight is no longer under your control.

Thanks for your response. I was just about to ask this question. If i log off while at the shipper or receiver, ( to load or unload), the time spent will only count towards the 14 Hour shift Rule? BUT NOT TOWARDS THE 11 HR DRIVE RULE, CORRECT? In other words the goal is to MAXIMIZE THE DRIVING TIME AS MUCH WE CAN? Thanks for your help.

Think of the 14 hr clock as a stopwatch or the timer on a bomb. Once you start it, you cannot stop it unless you go off duty for 10hrs.

    NorthEastTrucker and jc3737 Thank this.
