Wal-Mart does that already but it's a flat rate late fee. I've seen vendors switch carriers that haul for WM if they are constantly late.

Not true. WM will charge the carrier, and in certain circumstances the vendor, if WM has to change the appointment at an earlier date in the scheduleing system. Simply being early, there is no fee charged(But per WM policy you they will not take your live unload if its more than 48hrs early) If your late their is a flat rate fee that is imposed. A carrier late all the time will eventually lose their account by the broker or vendor delivering to WM.

If the load is late because of the shipper, then they will charge them after being late so many times. That's usually the problem, they don't load the trucks on time.

The ELD will show the truck was on time for loading and how long it really took to get loaded. If that makes the truck late because now the driver has to take a 10 hour rest then that's how thing will work for while till everyone learn to adjust to running legal.

Shippers could say all drivers need 5 hours minimum available time to start loading, or they will start loading trucks in 2 hour or less, or pay detention pay.

@bzinger but where do you find those Dispatchers? I think part of the problem is that planning is not an easy task.. If decent loads only appear 24 hrs prior to Pickup, how you're going to plan ahead? By now there should be tools that could help everyone be more efficient in Load Planning and getting the best load out of multiple options. What are your thoughts on this?

You are spot on with everything you said !
I'm very fortunate to have landed where I did .
I'm no expert and never will be but to make things work on my end it takes a dispatcher that commicates , knows what I have for hours available and plans accordingly ...with cushion ...also takes a dispatcher that doesent take poo poo when I'm sitting getting the boner .
A strong carrier freight base is also essential .
Morehouse has been around since 1932 so they have they're bases covered .
This eld thing is going to hit the carrier that rely on broker freight the hardest.
Just my 2 cents and what I do doesent amount to a drop in the bucket in a vast univerce .
I know that doesent help but nobody really knows .

This ought to grind some gears.....my "Den Mom" at the KS TDC this past June is the President of Convoy out of K.C. KS. She was livid that UPS was going to file an extension so they could upfit their fleet with compliant ELD's, a multi-billion dollar company couldnt make it happen by December....and she said she was sure their request would be granted. You could tell she was upset how larger fleets are treated versus small ones.

People with elogs still cheat evidently. Spend the night at the shipper or receiver and do the loading and unloading as off duty time......that's cheating. Start the day after they are loaded or unloaded. Have a 14 hour day after they were already up for several hours loading or unloading. It's all BS.

I can be up 24 hours straight and still be legal on a elog. Start my day at 6am. Go to receiver and get unloaded. Drive to truck stop. Go off duty and look for another load. Might sit 10 hours looking for load. Find a load that loads at night. Leave truck stop at 9pm to get loaded and drive all night legally according to elog.
Been up since 6am and still up over 24 hours later....legally.

The elog has no way of knowing if I had any sleep or not. Isn't that what the elog is supposed to prevent? Tired drivers.......####ing BS this elog crap. Does nothing for safety.

If anything the roads will be more dangerous because drivers will be under pressure to haul hass due to the 14 hour rule being cast in stone with elogs. Trucks are hauling hass out there now. I run 68 as an OO and I swear I'm one of the slowest trucks on the road. Lately I have been running 71 or 72 to see how that effects my miles driven and I'm still getting blown off the road.

I'm not spending the night at shipper and receiver loading docks just so I can cheat on my elog. Most places are unsafe. And I'm not hauling hass just so I can get to a shipper or receiver just because of elogs.

I plan my route and my driving according to what makes my job easiest and safest. elogs don't give a rats hass about what is the easiest and safest way to deliver or pick up a load.

These guys cheating on elogs will have their day too. There will be driver facing cameras on the legislative menu before you know it to catch them using the wrong lines. Anyone who thinks HOS and/or elogs is about safety needs their heads examined.

    Money!!!!

7 to 800 bucks per ELD and/or 30 to 60 bucks a month times a few millions trucks.

    Make that........BIG MONEY!!!

    For example:

700 x 2 million trucks equals 1.4 billion dollar industry created Dec 18th.

    or:

30 bucks a month x 2 million trucks equals 60 million bucks a month industry.

The people that love trucking are the people who make a living OFF the trucking industry while going home every night to their family.

It's not the drivers that love trucking now. LOL
