I should post some offers on the I-5 corridor going south from WA/OR to Los Angeles. The rates are the same, if not less, as they have been for years. Why? Because trucking companies are trying to get their trucks back down to the L.A. market on the round trip, where I've seen rates out of L.A. to Seattle going for up to 4k to 5k on a dry van. Most of the trucks I see hauling lumber loads out of here to L.A. are not White Volvos either![]()
ELD Mandate....Any O/O's left the business because of it?

You're up 38% year over year and you seem mildly depressed? LOL
I'm sure part of it has to do with the regulatory effect on the market, however, I'm sure part of it is the learning curve you've gone through, learning how to work smarter as an owner operator.spyder7723 and TallJoe Thank this. -
Yep. According to some they malfunction multiple times a day. I've had 3 minor issues in 2 years, both were fixed with in 20 minutes.

Not necessarily. Many are simply resistant to change or have some ridiculous fear they are being tracked.Western flyer, jamespmack and bryan21384 Thank this.

There was a huge amount of little edits here and there that added up to a big chunk of false capacity. I immediately noticed major parking problems in areas of the country that were never short on parking. Beckley service plaza on 77 for example. In over 20 years of running 77 i have never seen it full at any time of day, now it's full before 9 pm.
Also, it does not take a big change in capacity to drive rates up. As little as 2 or 3 % can have an immediate large impact on rates. -
I don't like being tracked any more than anyone else. Nor do I like the control, the chain around the ankle. But the fact is that drivers were, and likely STILL ARE, running 2000 miles in 2 days and keep rates artificially low.
If I were King, I would do some things with the trucking industry that would make heads explode. And rates would also explode for owner ops.Western flyer and spyder7723 Thank this. -
Impatient for no reason

I could care less if they put speed limiters on. I drive my truck 62 or 63 miles an hour anyway. I'm still able to get 650 miles a day. That's a pretty long day. That's ten or eleven hrs.....anything past that gets risky, because you'll be tired as hell most likely. Our leaders are our leaders man. None of them, regardless of party affiliation, have truckers at the top of their priorities.jamespmack Thanks this.
