Hi truckers! Thanks to Highway's new mandatory ELD integration, we are looking for recommendations.
We've used Motive ELD before, and now using Garmin.
Motive gave me all the headaches with billing, it was a nightmare as we were getting charged without notice and then we have to go figure it out. Always increased the prices without notice and never broken down on the invoice in a way you can understand.
Garmin has been easy breezy, and like most good things, cannot last too long.
The charming new merge of RMIS and Highway is making most brokers having to re-set carriers up, and now Highway is demanding ELD integration. Garmin are way above and beyond things like supporting their client's needs in the current market, so they will not be adding tracking capabilities to their ELDs. So, here we are looking for a reliable and affordable ELD which is recommended by other truckers.
Thanks in advance. Apologies if there are other similar posts, only one I found was closed in 2017.
Let's finish the year strong!

So you're giving outside parties access to your ELD data?
CorsairFanboy, broke down plumber and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
F'em, there are other ways to track. The only way they'll learn is for everyone to say no to this. Why would anybody give access to their ELD. In fact the ELD manufacturers shouldn't even offer that.
CorsairFanboy, Oxbow, Stringb8n and 5 others Thank this. -
Why on the gods' green earth would you agree to something like that? Are you charging them for the privilege of knowing such sensitive data? Being able to track your equipment in real time is priceless. Nobody gives that out. Not FedEx, not UPS, not USPS, not DHL...nobody. If they did offer such a service I assure you they would charge dearly for it.
I haven't heard that Highway bought RMIS. Either way there are plenty of brokers that don't use either service. Also, the brokers you've listed that are pushing that nonsense are not worth dealing with anyway. If you're a legitimate carrier they have plenty of ways to get you set up and still avoid double brokering scumbagsCorsairFanboy, Oxbow, Opendeckin and 2 others Thank this. -
If they get enough fools to fall for this type of tracking they'll know almost exactly how many trucks are in a region and set the rate accordingly. They say the tracking stops when the load is completed....or does it?
mitmaks, CorsairFanboy, Oxbow and 4 others Thank this. -

Brokers can override that requirement, but don't want to do it, because it benefits them.
Only when the market turns in truckers favor they will start waving those BS requirements in order to book a truckSub Marino, Oxbow, Deere hunter and 3 others Thank this. -
So what y'all saying is it's not worth hauling freight these days with this new thing?

You know, y'all could get your own customers...
Opendeckin, Iamoverit and wichris Thank this.
