A friend of mine has been fighting this fight with having an ap which tracks him installed on his phone or not. We were captive and had PeopleNet installed for awhile so the company could keep track of their trucks and loads. I have my own stories about being in PA and informing a broker and dispatch that I wouldn't be able to check call or anything until I got back to service, and Verizon had none there at all, either. Guess who tried to call me anyway.
And even the satellite services go silent in certain circumstances. What I'm saying is that no one will be happy all the time no matter what solution to the problem is being utilized.Big Road Skateboard, Deere hunter and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
The PeopleNet is long gone, btw.

And I was just going to purchase Garmin for my company. For the pricing and capabilities Garmin seems reasonable. Motive IMO has slight issues and seems to be costly. Samsara seems likely the best option however their prices have increased in the last year.

I got absolutely slandered on this forum a year or so ago when I said I charge brokers for use of tracking apps... I'm sure those same people are all for this crap

I agree, we should be getting compensated for sharing such sensitive data. If we don't give them access to it, they have to purchase it from survey companies. I remember when we still had Progressive insurance (hope no one still does) they used to offer a discount for integrating your ELD for that data. And even then, that discount is laughable compared to what they'd spend on that data from a marketing company.
I am all for telling brokers they got us f-ed up forcing ELD integration, but want to know how others in the spot freight market feel and act on this. We have a small fleet, and though we have stable local routes, it's hard to establish cadence and contracts with brokers if you don't have a lot of capacity. SO the spot market brokers are our best resource at times. -

RMIS was purchased by Internet Truckstop and I don't believe they have merged with highway.

Regardless of who owns who, brokers are now starting to ask us to re-set up through Highway and it is impossible to complete without the ELD integration. Some brokers are able to override that, some will not due to their policies. UTS for example removed that requirement for us, but Flock Freight and Ryder refused and said it's company's policy and helps them "establish trust".
If you contact someone are Ryder and ask them to get you set up you'll see what I mean. Even though we already once were set up with them, once the new Highway rule came in, they are making everyone do it again.
