I was wondering if I have to install eld in my truck , they are titled as 2000 but door sticker says manufacture date 09-1999 , 08-1999 , 11-1999.
Per fmcsa official eld exempt page :
    • Drivers of vehicles manufactured before 2000.

Check the VIN. That's the method used to determine the year for exemption purposes

Proof that those writing the rules have no idea what they're talking about. Their intent and their vocal statements all point to model year 2000. The idiots in charge of the website don't understand the difference between when a vehicle is manufactured and the model year assigned to it and haven't kept it up to date with clarifications.

Even this page which is supposed to clear things up fails. They continue to say "manufactured before 2000" but then point out model year. How can the model year of a CMVs be found through the VIN?

    Typical bureaucratese. Clear as mud.

If you're counting on manufacture date you're going to be disappointed when your CSA starts taking the hit.
