Looks like I will be replacing mine. Or does it need it ? BTW , if I end up using the transformer for the RK, is it gonna be loose or screw in it ?
I use epoxy when I mount the Transformer inside the microphone case. You might as well keep the cord from the donor microphone. If I remember right that 3-wire cord it's hard to solder and it's not very flexible. The one that Mike got is a really nice cord and really easy to solder
Depending on who tunes the radio will determine how the microphone sounds with or without a Transformer but if the radio is properly tuned the Transformer will make the microphone louder. If the radio is butchered there's no point in adding the Transformer because you need to decrease the audio anyway.
What microphone are you using now? Between a road king and 636L whi:h sounds better? If road king is better use the transformer. If 636L sounds better don't use the transformer. A radio cranked up too high requires a microphone with less output and a radio that's properly tuned requires a microphone with more output. I would recommend buying three of those microphones and wiring them up in three different ways to compare the differences between all three. I would wire the first one with the Transformer and with the capacitor I would wire the second one with the Transformer and without the capacitor and I would wire the third one without the Transformer and without the capacitor and then I would compare all three microphones to see which one sounds the best with my voice.
I found another one for $12.99 and $3 shipping. The Voice coils rarely go bad on these things so I suspect the cord is probably bad on this particular one which is no big deal. http://m.ebay.com/itm/272229604372
Surprise surprise surprise......The Mic came in today. I was expecting it on Monday. It look's better than the pictures. Anyway's, right now I'm using the SRA 198 mic. I run my mic gain between 12 and 2 most of the time. Even when I ran the RK 56, its on the same position.
I received your PM's. I will be a little busy this weekend, once I open up the mic I will be in touch rabbi. Thanks for all your help.
It's a little time-consuming and tedious work but once you do your first microphone the next one is super easy to do
I just discovered one that I've never seen before on eBay and it looks just like the 602 but I can't find specifications on it. I'd be willing to bet that it would work just as well as the 602 series.
