I am trying to find out more about the electronic logs that people are using now. I have never had to use them but find myself having to lease on with a carrier. I am very partial to paper logs, but is it worth it to not lease on with a company just because of electronic logs?
Info would be greatly appreciated. I know everyone says they are coming and all trucks are going to have them but i kinda want to hold out for as long as I can.
How much do they cost and what is too much to pay for it? Does the carrier pay for it or do I? And most importantly, if I am 70 miles from home and run out of time do I really have to stop? Any night in my bed at home is a good night.
Thanks and please no smart&%s answers.
electronic logging...good or bad??

Yep have to stop one hour from house welcome to elogs, glad i dont have to use them.

Do you run legal? If you do then It takes a a few weeks to get used to the system. If you Run loose leaf and make it up as you go then yeah its gonna hurt at first but you will figure it out.. as for the 70 miles from home it depends. Are you under a load then yeah you are stuck. If you are not you use line 5 and head home. Honestly thats the legal way even if you were on paper. I hear there are ways around them however I dont know those things.

I can only imagine if its your own truck, you should be able to make it stop working when you are close to home

I'm in the same boat. Starting next week, I'll get my first taste of elogs. I'm worried if I'll be able to make it. On the bright side,Guess I will get to sleep now

Maybe you could ask a Werner driver? Some might laugh, but Werner's been running e-logs longer than just about anyone else I know of, so they probably know all sorts of "tricks of the trade" on electronic logs. Just a guess...

i was wondering if an owner operator had to start using elogs under his own authority, how are elogs gonna be any different than paper? if he isn't leased to someone that sets the system for him, he can change whatever he wants right?

Elogs are easy to use, much less tedious than paper logs, and take a lot less time. They were also easy to learn.
The only people who won't like elogs are the supertruckers who want to run over hours. -
