there is tons of information in the electronics section....... gonna start reading there.

Do all these devices and service get super expensive...seems like they would.

I pay T-mobile 100 a month, and pilot 20 a month. I use that to browse the web, phone and whatever else. When I'm home once a month, I download enough video where I don't have to stream anything while I'm out on the road.

The devices get expensive, but well worth it. I bought a business class Dell e6410, because they are solid, and can handle being on the road.

22 inch Philips flatscreen at Wally World was 125ish. Rand McNally was 350ish (i think). Blue Parrot bluetooth - 100.00. HTC Sensation (phone) 400 w/out contract.

I would look on Craigslist for a lot of this stuff. I paid around 600 for my pc, when it's worth well over 1200.00. You can find drivers that are leaving the business, and selling everything they accumulated while driving. Like anything, there is a right way, and a wrong way to do things. If you're practical, you can get setup fairly cheap. If you don't have patience, you can spend a lot of money.

I was talking to T-Mobile today about their internet options. I wanted to go with them because I've been their customer for years, but I've heard their internet services leave a lot to be desired.

Is this true? What have your experiences been using the T-Mobile internet?

I pay verizon $100/month for my droid with unlimited web and just tether my phone to my alienware M11x netbook for internet using PDAnet which works fine anywhere I get 3G, which is most everywhere. I also got the flatscreen, a power generator, xbox360, PS3, microwave, DS3d, etc... I like my gadgets.

Pretty much what I do to. I have a Droid Bionic that I tether to my laptop for internet. I do this at home and on the road though. For actual talking I have a Motorola Roadster speakerphone. Works great for streaming music to the truck and handling hands free phone calls.

Have you "rooted" your phone so you get the unlimited data even if you're acting as a hotspot for all your other devices?

I figured I'd do the same thing, tablet mounted on the dash for GPS/Maps, Laptop in back for DL'ing torrents, Xbox for online gaming/streaming Netflix, flat screen & OTA Antennae.

Don't have to root if you use PDAnet..the free version allows hardwire to one device..the paid version of the app allows hotspot use I think

If Verizon catches you using WiFi as a HotSpot on a rooted phone they will put you on a HotSpot plan. If you use PDAnet and use wired tethering they do not charge you and it only goes against your regular month plan. And since I am on a grandfathered in unlimited plan I personally have no worries about going over. (Verizon has told me this policy on the phone and in their service centers. Reasoning being that phones like my Bionic came stock with a wired tethering program and were only charging for HotSpot useage.)

Same with my evo on sprint..but its not grandfathered and still unlimited data..

There are some laptop programs out there (used to be anyway) that had a gps antenna that plugged into usb that were motor carrier specific..wouldn't route you on any non truck route as long as it was up to date..microsoft even made one at one time..helps with trip planning but wouldn't rely completely on gps ever..most gps will allow you to edit the suggested route to your atlas planned route however
