So, my husband drove for Gordon for about a year. He was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 3 months into his career, and subsequently was taken off the road by his Dr. He went back to work and about 5 mos later the same thing happened as he was not using his machine correctly according to the Dr. So, Gordon called and terminated him but said that he was eligible for rehire and just to call when he completed treatment to start driving again. He successfully resolved the problem and called to go back to work....guess what....they told him no and gave no explanation. He asked to speak to the powers that be as to why he could not come back, and was told that there was no one to talk to and that explanations are not given when a driver is refused re-hire.

As a result, my husband has been turned down by several companies due to the termination, which is listed as non-disciplinary and he has a clean DAC, perfect driving record and no other issues. So our question is, what does a driver do that has been terminated and been off the road for year?? The only company that said they would take him is Covenant, in which we are thankful for, but puzzled as to why most trucking companies will not even take a chance on you, even with the letters of explanation and all documentation.....what the hell is the deal??? Very discouraging..........any ideas out there?? Thanks!!:biggrin_25516:

I don't know what tho say to you except that's how those big companies are......it's not right but it is what it is. If I were him I would try to find a smaller company to go to they can be more forgiving and at least you can sit across from the people making decisions.......I wish you both good luck

Keep one doctor for your medical, and another for everything else.

The guy that does my truckers medicals keeps saying to me that I should go see him some other time than new licence time. Fat chance. If I feel ill, he's the last person I'm going anywhere near. Last time I renewed my licence, I forgot he only takes cash, so I ran about 2 miles to the bank and back to get some. I had to run to get back in time for my appointment time. His nurse took my blood pressure, and it was somewhat elevated after the exercise. When it came to his part of the exam, he looked at the BP and said "That's BS. I know your blood pressure. We'll do it again." This time it was whatever he wanted to see.

I have another doctor I would go to if I was feeling ill, but so far I haven't had to head his way.

I know this doesn't help at present, but once your husband has found another job, tell him to take the best advice this forum gives and PROTECT HIS CDL at all costs.

I work for Butler, they're pretty cool. Trucks governed at 65, I'm not recruiting, or a recruiter. But the owner of the company, if he ever gets a little bored and has an extra truck he will run a load and back just to make sure his drivers are comfortable.

Companies don't want hassles with potential drivers medical problems, that may pop up down the road.
